It happened little by little.

First Goldi’s toothbrush on the bathroom counter. And then some of her pajamas in the laundry, which ended up in Beauty’s closet. And then the soy milk in the fridge, because Goldi was lactose intolerant and she slept over so often, nowadays, it didn’t make sense to get coffee from the diner every time. 

And then the incense burning in the living room (jasmine, because that was what Natalie liked best). And then the potted bamboo in the front hall. And then the tabletop fountain in the master bedroom, the sound of trickling water mingling with the sound of Goldi’s breathing every night. 

And then, and then, and then. By the time Beauty realized what was happening, it was nearly over. 

They had gone out for dinner one night, the three of them, and when they came back in through the front door Beauty paused, struck suddenly by the clutter of shoes just inside the threshold. Hiking boots and stilettos and running shoes and slippers, all together. 

Goldi touched the small of her back. “Beauty? What happened?”

Beauty blinked, swallowed. “No…it’s nothing.” She turned and smiled, leaning in for a kiss. “I guess I’m just glad we’re home.”

“Are you in love with my mom?” Natalie asks, blunt as she always is.

Goldie stops for a second and stares at Natalie. She blinks a few times, blushes a deep deep red. Opens her mouth to answer, closes it, opens it again.

“Yes, then,” Natalie says, smugly satisfied.

Goldie’s blush deepens.

And, yes, okay, it’s true. But  that doesn’t mean anything, in the long run. Goldie was in love with Henry, after all. Goldie grew up for Henry, knew him and grew with him for over a decade, and that didn’t change anything. Neither will this. Being in love with Beauty is a thing, and it’s a thing that makes up part of her life, but it’s not everything.

“You should talk to her.” Natalie nods across the yard, where Beauty is poking ineffectually at the fire with a long stick.

“We’ve been talking,” Goldie says. “How else do you think she ended up bringing you to a cookout with me and the Bears?

Mama Bear comes out at that moment and, in a language Natalie and Goldie both speak but Beauty very much does not, says, “Ask the woman out, my golden girl.”

Goldie feels herself go flaming red all over again, and she looks anywhere but at Beauty, jumping back from the fire with a yelp as a log shifts and sends up a shower of sparks.

“Come on,” Natalie pushes. “She talks about you all the time.”

“She does?” G-d, she sounds like a teenager with a crush, begging Jake for all the details about Hank all over again. She was too old for it then, and she’s too old in both senses for that kind of behavior now.

“She thinks you’re pretty, and she thinks you’re a good role model for me, and she’s glad I have an adult that speaks animal that I can talk to, and she wants you to cook for us every night.” Natalie is pulling Goldie towards the fire now, a s’more in one hand and Goldie’s elbow in the other. She’s not tugging all that hard, but Goldie feels drawn inexorably after her anyway.

“None of that means she likes me!” Goldie whisper-wails.

“Come on,” Natalie says. “Just ask her out! It’s not like you two don’t spend half your free time together anyway!”

Before Goldie knows it, she’s been deposited on a wicker love seat next to Beauty.

“Is she bothering you?” Beauty asks, looking at her daughter suspiciously.

Goldie laughs, because even though Natalie is being pushy, she’s never a bother. She’s a sweet girl, and Goldie could spend a million hours with her and not get annoyed. “Of course not.”

“Good,” Beauty says, watching Natalie walk back across the yard to start roughousing with Baby Bear.

They sit in silence for a long time, just watching. Mama and Papa Bear are inside, cooking.

It’s nice, with the fire. Summer is close to ending, and the air at their back is chilly, but the fire before them is a balance, this close to painful against Goldie’s exposed shins. She wouldn’t change anything about it.

She finishes her s’more and puts her hand on the cushion. Her fingers brush against Beauty’s.

“Oh!” she says, and she turns to Beauty.

Their eyes meet. Beauty looks—hopeful.

Goldie’s known, for a while, that Beauty has been flirting with her. She’s flirted right back. But neither of them have moved it farther than that. She hasn’t wanted to push, hasn’t wanted to upset the delicate equilibrium that Beauty and Natalie are keeping in their new family life.

But the look in Beauty’s eyes…

“Do you—” she asks.

At the same time, Beauty says, “Did—”

“Sorry,” Goldie offers.

“No, you go.”

And they’re laughing, because it’s so stupid, trying to out-polite each other, and everything’s lovely tonight, and somehow, their hands have gone from touching gently to entwined, and they’re drawing closer together as they laugh until their foreheads are pressed against each other.

“Sorry,” Beauty says. “I don’t know what came over me.”

“Don’t apologize,” Goldie says, smiling into Beauty’s eyes, the lovely deep brown of them.

And then, for a while, they don’t say anything, just looking into each other’s eyes, foreheads pressed against each other.

“So is Goldie going to be my new mom?” Natalie asks, making them both jump a little. They didn’t notice her coming back.

“It’s a little early for that,” Beauty says, but she doesn’t move.

Goldie smiles into Beauty’s perfectly imperfect face and says, “We’ll see.”

For @grimmtober day 3: Family! (Also for @nyenuma who introduced me to the idea of beautilocks

Natalie is in the living room.

Normally, when Goldie comes over, Natalie finds a reason to be somewhere else. But today, Natalie is in the living room, and she isn’t leaving. She’s watching something on TV. Goldie can’t put a name to it, but it looks like a cop procedural.

“Hi,” she says. She hopes she doesn’t sound too tentative. She gives a little wave, immediately regrets it.

Natalie looks up, surprised. “Oh. Hi. I, uh. Hi.”

“What are you watching?”

“Rizzoli and Isles,” Natalie says. After a beat, she says, “You could. Watch it with me. If you wanted?”

“Sure,” Goldie says. She slides onto the other side of the couch, far enough from Natalie that she’s not encroaching on her space, but hopefully close enough that Natalie feels like Goldie wants to be there.

Goldie’s been trying. She and Beauty have only been dating for a few months, but Beauty made it crystal clear that her daughter comes first, that she gave up a decade with her girl and will not give up any more time. And Goldie understands that. Doesn’t want to be first in Beauty’s life, only wants to be part of it. And that means being part of Natalie’s life. She just doesn’t know how.

The show switches to commercial break after a very abrupt cut away from some piece of evidence, and Goldie realizes she has no idea what’s going on.

“What’s going on?” she asks, nodding at the screen.

Natalie shrugs. “It’s a cop show. You don’t need to know the plot, they’re all the same. All you need to know is they should’ve been lesbians.”

Goldie raises her eyebrows. “Oh?”

Natalie launches into a diatribe. It’s the most words the girl’s said to Goldie directly in the entire time they’ve known each other. Goldie learns that the whole thing that’s set up to make this cop show different than every other piece of—Natalie calls it ‘copaganda,’ whatever that means—is that it’s got two female leads, and the two female leads have the same odd couple dynamic that every other cop show like this has, but because it’s two women instead of a man and a woman like Bones or Castle or even the stupid X Files, they took the coward’s way out and made the women just friends.

“The whole point of the cop show couple getting together with their partner is that they’re always so married to the job nobody else can understand them,” Natalie finishes. The show has gone off commercial, but she doesn’t seem to have noticed.

“I think that’s stupid,” Goldie offers. Natalie looks like she’s going to shut down, so she hurries to add, “Being married to the job, I mean. You’ve got to have balance in your life. You can’t just let one thing overrule it.”

“Yeah, well,” Natalie says with a shrug. “It’s TV. They like the idea of the brooding hero obsessed with the job. It goes all the way back to Star Trek at least.”

This show, Goldie has seen. Henry and Jake liked the bald man—Picard, Goldie thinks his name was. It’s been too long since she’s seen it for her to have anything to add, though, so instead she says, “You like analyzing TV, huh?”

“I wanna make TV shows someday,” Natalie says, but a lot of the animation has left her face. “I know it’ll be hard, and that it’s really difficult to get into the market, and I’m gonna have all these extra challenges ‘cause I’m, like, half-monster, or whatever. But I’ve been looking into ways to make it into the field and if I work really hard and meet the right people and learn how to look the way they want me to look, I might have a chance.”

“It sounds like you’re thinking about this in a really smart way,” Goldie says. She wants to reassure this girl, who looks like she’s already had too many people tell her that her dreams are out of reach. She doesn’t know how, though. “I don’t know anything about any of this, but if you ever need an in somewhere—” she winks at Natalie. “I’ve got ears everywhere. Birds are huge gossips.”

Natalie grins back at her. And Goldie doesn’t feel the urge to run away, panicked at the idea of ruining her relationship with this girl before it gets anywhere.

It’s a start.

HA, I totally get it, no worries!! puck fans really do have it all LMAO

if you’d rather do art/fic about beautilocks or daphnocchio, I do have a couple tropes/scenarios that i love!

1. older daphne/pinocchio. I’ve read some fic about them in their childhood and teens but I’m interested in your take on their adult dynamic/relationship. assuming the first epilogue is semi-canon (i can’t bear the thought of it being completely canon lol), daphne is surprised by how pinocchio looks like at sabrina’s wedding, which implies that they haven’t seen each other in a while. but did they still maintain communication? are they still on good terms? did they write/text/call each other during this time? idk, it’s up to you! (also, re: art, WHAT DID THEY WEAR TO THE WEDDING)

2. beautilocks getting into a relationship. I absolutely subscribe to these headcanons, bc I do think beauty and goldi kind of danced around the idea of a relationship for a while before making the leap. they’ve both been hurt before! and they value their friendship so much, so why risk ruining it?! I would LOVE to see/read the moment they come together romantically, put aside their inhibitions and embrace the chance that they could have something beautiful together. it’s the YEARNING

Headcanons about Natalie

Goldie and Natalie have an extremely complex secret handshake.

She loves puns and every Halloween she dresses up as a bat and calls herself "Batalie"

Neither she nor Beauty are naturally inclined to let their guards down so at the end of the war their relationship was difficult but Goldie brings out the best in both of them and having her as part of the family helped bring them together.

Gives good hugs

I just think its interesting how MB portrays being "not like other girls" as a positive thing unless the girl in question isn't classically pretty

1.Who always remembers to carry a reusable bag?

I feel like its Goldie, Beauty doesn't forget but she doesn't bother because she just knows that Goldie definitely always has one.

2.Which one gets along better with others family?

Again I think its Goldie, Goldie doesn't really have family and Beauty can come across as a bit abrasive to people who don't know her. I also think that Goldie and Natalie have a really close relationship (Goldies bears adore Beauty though if that counts).

3.Which one is most likely to commit a crime?

Beauty but only because Goldie overthinks things. Beauty will break any law that inconveniences her without blinking an eye and she knows she can charm her way out of any situation.

4.Who is the big spoon?

I think they take turns.

5.which one realized they had feelings for the other first?

Goldie knew first but she waited for Beauty to actually acknowledge her own feelings before she said anything. Even though she had some things to work through with Henry she was ready to move on, Beauty was still dealing with her feelings about her marriage
