So on page 3 of the Super Mario Bros 2 USA manual we learn the Residents of Subcon are under the control of King Wart. "Welcome to 'Subcon', the land of dreams. We have been cursed by Wart and we are completely under his evil spell. We have been awaiting your arrival.".........
A detail not everyone notices is the Residents of Subcon who are under Wart's spell are the Beezos that fight Mario & Friends. They are wearing cloaks and shy guys masks and without them they look like little fairies.
