Bede shifts the weight in his arms carefully, adjusting the blanket the egg has been swaddled in to better keep it warm. Aurora wraps a feeler around his wrist and starts to hum soothingly, though he’s not sure if it’s to calm him or the Pokemon inside the egg.

Almost as if it knows he’s anxiously awaiting someone, his Rotom phone zooms in front of him and chimes, “Brrzeep! Hop’s at the font door! Should I let him in?”

“No, I... I got--” But the Rotom phone zips away as fast as it appeared and Bede hears the telltale click of the front door unlocking. He sighs and rolls his eyes. “Sure, let him in I guess...”

He hurries to the front room, egg still in his arms and Aurora trailing behind him to keep her feeler wrapped around his wrist, to greet his guest. Though, what with how often the assistant had been at his house lately, with this whole... egg business, Bede was starting to wonder if he should be getting Hop to pay rent. “Nothing yet,” he reports, expecting the daily ‘any-movement-any-cracks-any-sounds’ question. “Remind me again where you even got this? One of your professor friends or something?”

As big as the Galar region is, the more Piers travels around it, the more he realises that it’s really not that big at all. It’s probably more that it feels small, but that’s bound to happen when most the people he knows also do a fair bit of travelling, and more often than not they wind up travelling to the same places. It feels like everywhere he goes, he sees somebody he knows.

Today is no exception, but instead of Piers running into a gym leader, or a sponser, or anyone like that, it’s Hop that he spots on the streets. He’s not about to duck his head and pretend he hasn’t seen Hop, the way he might (or absolutely would) if it were somebody else. No, instead he’ll make the effort to go over, and give some form of greeting.

“Well, I weren’t expectin’ to see you ‘ere.”

“D-Don’t worry, buddy, it’s okay!” He raised his hands reflexively, to show that he wasn’t a threat. “Nothing to be afraid of, see? No one’s gonna hurt you. Let’s just talk things out!”

Hop idly taps his pen on his notepad, head tilting slightly. "So... are humans born with psychic powers, or do they develop them because of—" a small frown as he searches for the words, "— continued exposure to Psychic types?"

The pen is tapped against his chin. "Would someone without abilities, like me, be able to use telepathy or move things with their mind if they hung out with Psychic types for a long time?"

"That is a very good question.

The general consensus is that psychics are born with their abilities. Furthermore, it is speculated and believed by some that everyone has some degree of psychic power. However, not everyone will awaken said powers during their lifetime.

Exposure to psychic type pokemon could, potentially, help bring out one's innate abilities, but that has not been confirmed, to my knowledge.

Psychics like myself often had their powers awakened, or activated from a young age. Mine became manifested when I was two, for example."
