“Wow, you really know how to make me work for it, don’t ya?”
Beidou strode up to the table with a wry smirk twitching at the corner of her mouth. Even with the dim lighting inside The Flagship, she’d know the silhouette of the woman in the headscarf anywhere.
While the captain had been docked in Fontaine on her most recent voyage, she was surprised to find a message waiting for her with instructions for her next destination. It was rare for Tianquan herself to make a trip outside of Liyue, but Beidou was relieved to see she was at least trying to keep her identity hidden.
“Interesting location for a rendezvous, but can’t say I’m disappointed. Care to tell me why we’re meeting in Nod-Krai and not your bedroom? Normally you can’t wait to get me in the sack when I’ve been gone this long,” she joked as she slid into the chair across from her.
Ningguang rolled her eyes playfully. “What, a change of pace isn’t nice from time to time? Or is the captain really that homesick? Did you honestly think I’d let you spend your birthday alone if I could help it?”
The other woman let out a snort of a laugh before her gaze drifted toward the bar on instinct. Her good mood dissipated immediately.
“Ah, I see. Must be pretty important if she’s here as well.”
“Down, Beidou. Relax. You’re not the only person I trust with important business matters. It just so happened that Yelan had need of my discerning eye regarding a business endeavor that could prove quite profitable. Her usual connections are skilled, but in this instance, she felt the need to call in a true expert.”
The captain attempted to control the scowl that threatened to emerge. “So. Just you and her? Didn’t think to call in some extra muscle just in case things went south?”
Ningguang took a long drag from her pipe. “For this particular instance, I didn’t think it necessary. I figured by the time we wrapped things up, you’d have gotten my letter and been halfway here already.” She exhaled a perfect smoke ring that drifted across the expanse that separated them. “You’ve always been diligent like that. If you’re really that pressed for details, I’ll fill you in over drinks.”
Normally, Beidou didn’t mind the need to keep their relationship discreet. Ningguang respected and loved her deeply, this she knew. But she’d be lying if she said it didn’t irk her that Yelan often got to spend more time around her girlfriend than she did.
“Nah, the last thing I wanna do is talk about work.” The captain caught the attention of a waiter. “I’ll have whatever Nod Krai thinks can take down the uncrowned lord of the ocean, and my beautiful companion here will take your finest red.” He returned promptly with their order, and the captain took a swig, welcoming the familiar burn of hard liquor.
“So, how’s Nod-Krai treated you so far?” She asked.
Swirling the crimson waves in her glass, the Tianquan replied, “I must say, I’m impressed. Their technology is quite advanced, as is their youth. Yelan introduced me to a girl named Aino the other day, and I couldn’t believe what she’d crafted all on her own. A humanoid robot caretaker who was entirely capable of raising her as well as assisting her in inventing.”
Nodding along, Beidou leaned forward. “Yeah? That’s quite the feat. Reminds me of someone else who’s got a brilliant mind for building.”
Trying to hide her blush behind another sip of wine, Ningguang cleared her throat and continued. “I may have a knack for crafting business ventures and impressive structures, but honestly, the network of informants Yelan’s garnered over the short time she’s been here is nothing short of amazing. You know, the other day she invited me to accompany her to meet the owner of the Curatorium of Secrets…”
A slight buzzing made it hard for the captain to maintain focus on the other woman’s words. Whether it was the alcohol kicking in or her jealous streak flaring up, she couldn’t tell. Still, she let the Tianquan continue.
“Before we head back to Liyue, remind me to take you to this little place Yelan brought me to. The owner is quite the shady little thing, but she could prove to be a valuable asset down the road. You should have seen the look on Yelan’s face when she…”
Beidou’s tumbler hit the table with a bang, and Ningguang’s eyes shot open. “Sorry. Hand slipped,” she ground out. This was, in fact, a lie. If she heard that spy’s name one more fucking time, she was at a serious risk of losing her shit and making a scene in public. Thankfully, she wasn’t yet drunk enough to be that careless. The last thing either of them needed was for a little lovers’ quarrel to be blown out of proportion and plastered all over the front page of The Steambird. “You were saying?”
“My, you weren’t joking when you asked for something strong. The liquor is certainly doing its job. Oh, that reminds me of the other night when Yelan was telling me the story of the first time she took Shenhe out for a drink-”
They had to get out of here. Now.
“You know what?” The captain exclaimed. “I think it’s time we took the celebration back to where you’re staying for the evening, don’t you?” Her hand flew up to catch their server’s attention.
A look of genuine confusion washed over the Tianquan’s features. “But we’ve barely even finished our first round! Don’t tell me you’ve already hit your limit?”
“Oh, I’ve hit my limit, alright,” Beidou muttered.

Blessedly, Ningguang had chosen to lodge in the very same place. The Flagship was known not only for its bar, but for its affordable (and soundproof) rooms.
“Beidou! Slow down. You don’t even know the room number! What is wrong with you?”
“That’s right, how silly of me! How about I run back to the bar and ask Yelan? I’m sure she knows!” She hissed back.
The Tianquan almost lost her footing as she dug in her pocket for the key. “Excuse me?”
“You’re gonna wanna get inside before we continue this conversation.” Marching past her, Ningguang stopped before one of the nicer-looking doors. The captain should have guessed. They hustled inside, and the blonde whirled around to face her.
“What are you insinuating?”
Shaking her head in mock surprise, the other woman retaliated, “I’m actually shocked she wasn’t in here waiting for you naked and spread-eagle on that bed that’s clearly too big for one person!”
“Oh, you’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
“Yelan this, Yelan that. Yelan, Yelan, Yelan!” The captain’s voice started to crack, and she hated herself for it. “Fuck Beidou! It’s only her birthday. Not like she’s not used to spending night after night alone. What’s one more? No big deal.”
The emotion that permeated her words broke through Ningguang’s rage and hit her straight in the heart. “Dearest, don’t be ridiculous! You know she and I have history, and not the kind you’re thinking. I helped her get through a very dark patch when she needed some light in her life. Now, we work together to ensure Liyue’s prosperity. We are business partners and friends, nothing more.”
“Is that all I am to you? A business partner? A friend? You can galivant around with her no problem, but if you and I spend too much time together, it’s a scandal? What am I, to you, Ning? What are we?”
Ningguang took a deep breath and weighed her words carefully. “Beidou. As an intelligence agent, Yelan takes on many identities. She can be anyone, to anybody. It’s the nature of her occupation. You are known far and wide as the fearsome warrior who killed Haishan. Your reputation precedes you, and it also makes you a valuable asset-”
Before she could angrily interrupt her word choice, the blonde put a gentle finger to her lips. “-but that is not all you are, just as Tianquan is just a title I hold. But with titles comes responsibility. There will be a time when you and I can walk hand in hand through Liyue Harbor, but we have work to do before that dream becomes a reality,” she said with a sad smile. “Please, love. I realize now I’ve been careless. It wasn’t right for me not to consider your feelings. Of course you’d be upset having traveled all the way here only to be greeted with the name of another woman over and over. And on your birthday, no less. Will you forgive me?”
Her sincerity was evident. Ningguang rarely apologized. Truth be told, it was usually Beidou who was at fault. She’d be the first to admit it. But life was short, and holding grudges wasn’t the captain’s style.
She moved in slowly. “That depends…” Her arms snaked around the other woman’s slim waist.
The Tianquan looked up at her expectantly. “Hmm. You’re toying with a master negotiator, here. Name your price.”
Beidou’s head tilted ever closer. “You.”
“Then you, and only you, shall have me,” Ningguang murmured as her lips grazed hers. She felt the tension in her girlfriend’s body completely dissipate, and marveled at how one kiss could calm the storm of uncertainty in her captain’s heart. Their mouths moved against each other, quietly savoring a taste they had both gone far too long without.
The brunette’s tongue sought entrance, and the Tianquan obliged with no resistance. Ningguang moaned into her mouth when she felt the other woman’s broad hands twist in the hair at the nape of her neck to tilt her head back. When she finally pulled back to allow them to catch their breath, Beidou’s eyes shone glossy with desire.
“Need you. All of you. Now.” She panted.
“Well? What are you waiting for? Take me,” Ningguang shot back. With a rumble in her chest, the captain surged forth and began to undress her. Even for as long as they were apart, Beidou’s muscle memory could not be shaken. Deft fingers easily undid bows and buttons. She only stopped to watch the expensive silk slither down her curves and land in a puddle at her feet.
Pushing her cape off her shoulders, the Tianquan returned her fervor until there was nothing left to separate them. Beidou tugged her into bed and coaxed her to get into position. “C’mere. Want you to ride my face.”
“Mmm, awfully demanding, aren’t you? I could suffocate you, you know,” she purred while carefully positioning her knees on either side of the other woman’s head.
“Better me than Yelan,” she muttered as she yanked her down by her hips. Ningguang let out a half-yell, half-groan as she felt the wet heat of Beidou’s tongue lap against her entrance.
“N-no need to be a cheeky bastard,” the Tianquan tried to say with a commanding voice. “Oh, Archons…”
The captain worked her sensitive bud, licking in measured circles. With perfect pressure, she hummed in delight at the familiar musky taste of her. She felt her try to bear down and only tightened her grip.
“Ah, ah. Not yet, princess. Who does this pussy belong to?” She growled.
Ningguang hissed in frustration as she felt the ache between her thighs beg for release. Not yet ready to give her the satisfaction, she grit her teeth and said, “You already know the answer to that…”
“Do I? Because if I had to venture a guess, I’d probably say Yelan, considering how much you apparently love to say her name.”
Choking back a cry of annoyance, the Tianquan exclaimed, “Oh, for Archonssakes! You petty…” She reached down to try to rub her clit to ease the throbbing need, but Beidou snatched her wrist.
“You don’t get to fucking come until I hear you fucking say it. Who. Owns. This. Pussy?”
“You!” She cried. “Beidou! Beidou, Beidou, Beidou!”
“That’s right…Keep fucking saying my name until it’s the only one you can remember,” the captain snarled as she devoured her. She felt the woman above her start to wobble on her knees and pressed into her harder, grabbing her ass to steady her. Her name echoed against the walls of the room as Ningguang nearly toppled over her from the force of her orgasm.
Stabilizing the Tianquan, she looked up at her endearingly. Ningguang leaned forward and pressed a gentle kiss to her lips. She felt Beidou attempting to rise, but she was far from done with her. Nudging her shoulder, she guided her back down to the mattress.
“You don’t seriously think I’m done making it up to you, do you, love?”
Beidou stared back at her inquisitively. “Oh, ho! So, Ms. Pillow Princess suddenly wants to be in control?” Before she could taunt her any further, her girlfriend expertly parted her legs and pressed her core against the other woman’s clit.
“I think it’s only fair after all that’s happened today to not have you lift a finger,” she said as she slowly rotated her hips. They both shuddered at the feeling of their slick folds colliding. Ningguang kissed her again fiercely, her tongue demanding entrance to her mouth.
“Honestly. As if Yelan could ever satiate me the way you do. Whenever she’s not working, she’s napping. You, on the other hand, know how to put those gorgeous muscles of yours to good use…”
Beidou growled as she grabbed her ass and pulled her closer. “That spy…could never…handle you,” she panted in response.
“Only you, my captain…no one else…”
The Tianquan picked up her pace, her moans and her girlfriend’s gasps fueling her desire to make her see stars. Already sensitive from her first orgasm, she fought to keep control until the captain was ready to fall over the edge with her.
“Come with me, Ning,” Beidou commanded through gritted teeth, her fiery gaze never leaving the Tianquan’s. Heat shot through their bodies as they held onto each other for support. Their sensitive buds pulsed as they both came undone in each other’s arms. Unable to keep herself upright any longer, Ningguang rolled off of her and into the soft warmth of her lover’s side.
“‘Mm sorry,” the captain said in a voice barely above a whisper.
“Don’t be stupid. You have nothing to apologize for. If anything, I’m the one who should be asking for your forgiveness,” she replied as she caressed her girlfriend’s cheek. “But I do have to say, your possessive streak is very sexy.”
“Yeah?” Beidou flashed her a feral grin. “Say ‘Yelan’ a few more times and I’ll make damn sure you know who you belong to.”
