Live outside the pale
July 2, 2003. Wednesday 7:55pm
Following are my thoughts about 4 years after being fired from my job as a Deputy Public Defender in Modesto, California in 1997:
“Come with me.
Sun yourself in a quiet, private, walled garden.
Meditate.
Quit. Get away.
Be thankful there is someone else out there to do your job once you are gone.
It gives you “you” time.
Wear shorts.
A Hawaiian shirt.
Dine by the window at noon at Clayton’s.
Start a journal.
Read Thoreau’s “Walden Pond”.
Unplug your phone.
Study a flower’s detail.
Close your eyes.
What do you hear?
Take a hot shower.
Study an old family photo album.
In-joy. Life outside of the pale.
In other words, live outside of the pale.
End of this part of the entry.
Notes:
Clayton's was a restaurant in Modesto
"Outside the pale" means to live outside of socially accepted ways of being and thinking
