Sometimes I feel inadequate because, man, there are people in my fandoms who are so talented. Such incredible minds and artists, people who have written fics that have thousands of kudos, people who are well-known, well-loved and have thousands of fans because of how great their ideas and art are.

And then there’s me, wasting so much time and energy trying to get a tiny fraction of attention, but I know I’ll never be able to, because I’m a complete weirdo. I will never be able to create anything popular, because I am just not that kind of person. I like to focus on niche and nerdy content that most people would find outright boring.

But then, I remember that every fandom needs a little weirdo. There are people, a little number of them, who are interested in me overanalyzing the biology of a demon character. There are people who want to read my fic that focuses on a closeted gay man in the fifties. There are some people who appreciate my art and my weird takes.

These people will always be a minority, but I feel absolutely blessed to have them. Everyone who cares about weird fandom shit that nobody else would care about can find something interesting here and that’s inspiring.

So, if you ever feel like you’re not enough because your posts don’t reach a large audience, remember that that’s because you’re unique! Your content is a bit niche, but every animal needs their niche. So never give up and try to chase some murky “popularity”, create what you love and your audience will flock to you, even if your niche is very narrow.
