Um, i have like, several :’D my oldest is an Obitsu Gretel. I was mostly into them when i was ‘younger’ too and had a job and no living expenses bc scholarship, but sort of rediscovered them over the last year bc of realizing that people posted about them on tumblr and now i have ppl to chat about doll stuff about. I post about them on @ebiljointed.
Sometimes I think that these days when I’m short on $$$ and only semi-employed I should up and sell em all since that’s like, several hundred bucks of plastic at this point, but truthfully that wouldn’t provide a significant amount of money relative to the cost of living independently.

This isn't quite what you asked, but I've been listening to Oh No, Ross and Carrie a bit lately, which involves a pair of skeptics going to psychic healing sessions and mediums and so forth and I feel like explorations of pseudoscience and kookery are in a similar wheelhouse

Not as far as I know, what makes me a bit uneasy. I trust Del Toro and I want the adaptation to be by him, as it's clear that he loves the original work as a diehard fan.
He is getting in more projects and my lack of knowledge in how the movie world works isn't helping at all. I don't know what that means for Monster, and I don't know exactly where to search the information I need for an educated guess in the matter.

I just have too much personal investment in schizoids, don't mind me haha. All of my favorite characters tend to be males with schizoid traits...because no one ever writes a female with them. So once again, thank the PoI writers because Shaw just Shaw everything alskdjglkajsdg. We do exist! Female schizoids do exist! And we're not arrogant bitches! Sigh.
And god that was such a relief with Carter. I was panicking so hard until I realized 1) you can't not have Carter and 2) she's a smart person, so there's really no way she wouldn't have figured it out. Or so I hoped. And thus I was so relieved 8D;;

But in all seriousness, if you want to get better at an instrument, drawing, a language, etc - each day for a month, draw one picture, play for at least x minutes, etc. At the end, you will see definite improvement, and hopefully that'll spur you into continuing. So I only spent those couple of years I have over you doing stuff like that. =o =o Also I'm incredibly flitty so I spend a period doing X, and then I stop cold turkey and do Y. Jack of all trades, master of none.

My parents ended up leaving China, too - said they didn't want to raise kids in that kind of system/education system. And they renounced their Chinese citizenship to become Americans, and plan to retire in the US. Which is why it's so frustrating that we're trapped in Shanghai right now. I'll see if I can find some of their old CR stories to post, 'cause all of the firsthand historical accounts of the CR I've seen are from people who were in the Red Guard/poorer people who led the "revolution" by attacking anyone whose ideology wasn't "pure" enough. Not from the (admittedly extremely small) bourgeoisie.

They'd just opened their high school again so we were the first graduating class in many years, and they quite frankly fucked up so much shit with us. A lot of us didn't even get into our safety schools (had British, Aus, and NZ teachers who gave us harshly uncurved grades which look bad in the US system since all those schools curve at various stages, etc - also we were a new school so they didn't want to take chances with our students). Reigning attitudes heavily favored IB kids who dropped their art class to take double science, because, you know, art - even though IB arts classes are some of the hardest in the entire system. (Theatre is notorious, with a single-digit percentage of students receiving a 7 mark. I was HL Theatre.)
I should back up and say that IB made you take 3 classes at HL (higher level), 3 at SL (standard), and Theory of Knowledge (pseudo philosophy/ethics). Plus lots of extracurriculars/volunteering for CAS hours, and a 4,000-word essay (that was the only part I liked - I wrote about politics. had a 5 page bibliography LOL). The HL classes were supposed to resemble uni classes more, but they just had stricter grading rubrics and more projects due. (For History HL, we had one extra exam that was three essays, aka 2 hrs 30 mins. No uni exam is 2 hrs 30 mins!! For Theater HL, I directed a play.)
We just had constant homework and tests, plus we were a very small student population trying to carry so many clubs and productions/shows. There were only 48 students in my year. I was in jor led at least six extracurriculars - whether I wanted to or was good enough or not had little to do with much of it, since we simply didn't have enough people.
Also many of us had commutes of 30-90 minutes per day, each way. I remember getting home at ~6 p.m., staying up until 3 a.m. for every math portfolio, never getting enough sleep (went to bed at 12:30 to 1:30, woke up at 6:38 - which was 30-60 mins later than all the other girls haha), etc. They were all "oh university will seem a breeze compared to this," but - 1) you have more time in the day to do work in uni than in IB, 2) you don't have BS crap like some of the stuff in these classes or CAS hours, and 3) the classes are actually interesting and the work actually meaningful.
The final grade weighting system also heavily punished full IB program kids, since others take normal classes in their weak subjects and then IB/AP only in their good subjects. So a lot of us in IB thought the valedictorian pick was a little tinged with bullshit, because that student took...I think 3 regular classes, 2 AP, 2 IB. The official memorandum was that they "carefully gave weight to various elements when choosing" etc, but I think they deliberately picked me for co-salutatorian to attempt to reassure people that being in IB isn't an unfair thing. The other co-sal was also a regular class + AP student. This is a problem that all IB/AP schools have, though - either the weight is too much, or nonexistent.
I know it sounds kind of silly right now to have cared over such inconsequential things, but at the time - our lives were just nothing but school. It felt like drowning. So when you put in all that work and get nothing worthwhile out of it, plus you don't make it into what are supposed to be your safety schools (that the counselor assured you were safe)................you can't help but be irritated. I didn't get many credits in uni, either - they don't like IB as much as AP, and a not-7 (the highest mark, given out only 6-10% of the time depending) wouldn't get you any worthwhile credits that counted.
Also, for a school supposed to be small and tight-knit, one of the students almost successfully committed suicide before we graduated, and I never forgave my class for looking the other way/piling more extracurricular responsibility onto her (and me). So admittedly I have strong feelings that run too deep for me to look back on IB objectively, because it was inexorably intertwined with...that. I guess I don't necessarily harbor a burning grudge against IB so much as my school that taught it, hahahaha.
