I hope they retcon the Ben 10010 future for multiple reasons. One of them being it makes no sense that Ben 1000 wouldn't know about past Ben unlocking surge unless they are going to pull what they did with the original Ben 10000 where it's an alternate future and not the actual future. Also I'm not a fan of Glitch getting stuck as hitch.

Ben 10,010 was low key awful. I don't like how they followed up on Glitch. I don't like how they handled the end of the world. I don't like that this Ben became a trash hobo with literal garbage friends. I HATE how they handled Kevin being abandoned. And I don't buy for a second that Gwen would trust any of those villains and put them in charge of anything (except Hex).

But it has to be an alternate timeline to make any amount of sense. Outside of both Ben's Surge forms looking different, which Alien X-tinction shows is a feature of alien forms from different timelines, a branch off the reboot sure but still a distinctly different timeline. Once Reboot!Ben was taken to the future getting there should be impossible. Reboot!Ben would have knowledge of what happened and how to stop it and the original point is they didn't know. That's usually the only way to avoid narrative paradoxes, they have to be different.

I won't lie I genuinely believe every special follows a different Ben then who we followed in the show and movie. It doesn't help the writing at all but it makes more sense to me. It's biggest crime its that it was boring. It had a plot it wanted use and took the safest options to tell it. Just in a very "don't think about it" way.

Tonight I made some non-serious posts about Ben 10,010, the first “movie” in the Ben 10 Reboot’s fifth season, but now it’s time to get into the thing that actually bother me.

Before I saw the episodes, I did see a handful of posts here on tumblr saying that Ben 10K was “ruined” and they just made him a depressed dad character. Which I can understand why people would be upset about that. Ben 10K is a really cool character and the reboot version is pretty far from what we usually associate with him.

I personally just saw it as a different take on the character which is always fun and I liked that they had this scruffier, out of shape, less heroic version of him. Life doesn’t always work out the way you’d expect. Staying in shape is hard. Adults have back pain all the time. Sometimes you don’t really care anymore. At some point, you just want to get through the day. Heroes are amazing and all but it’s always nice to see that they’re just people and everyone lose their way sometimes.

My problem is that at the end of the movie, Ben shaved and got back in shape. Sure, he looked more like his old self and that was fun to see but he also looked like the idea of what a hero should be: muscular, clean, and fired up. But you don’t need to look like a hero to be a hero. Why couldn’t he be a hero as he was? 

The whole transformation just seemed really unnecessary. Ben shaved and suddenly he was all ripped and ready to face the world. Not exactly the most body positive moment. If it wasn’t so sudden, I’d probably have less of an issue with it. Ben put in the work to grow emotionally and if they’d shown that he wanted to take that extra step, I’d be happy with that but instead they just showed that you have to look like a hero to be one.
