“If we’d ever gone to high school, Ben would have been the jock,” Allison says with a semi-serious nod. There’s a long pause and then she puts her wine glass back down on her coffee table, reaching up from her spot on the floor when all she gets are snickers and a ‘sure, Jan’, eyebrow from her two brothers.
“No, wait, stop being an ass and hear me out.” But she’s snickering at the sentence now too, covering her mouth with her hand. “He was friends with everyone. And he was the only one we never had anything bad to say about. He’d be so popular, without even trying. It would just be a given. Okay, okay, wait, no. No, no. He’d be the jock with a secret wish to be in the drama club.”
A long pause again, more poorly hidden laughter from her audience. She gasps, sitting bolt upright. Her head is spinning. But she can’t let this tragedy stand.
“Have you never seen High School Musical?”
