Gia's confidence in Ben is such a wonderful addition to the dynamic. This could have been one of those "Ben bragged about too many achievements to impress a girl and now she thinks he's a Superhero and inevitably he's going to have to come clean about being a fraud" plotlines (we've all seen it), but with Gia?

They're both genuine.

Think about how uncertain Ben was back in the other seasons...his panic attacks, his paranoia, his inability to convince people even though he's stating a simple fact by laying things out...but Gia trusts him without question. There's no "how?" or "are you sure?" or "really?"--she's the one person in this room he doesn't need to explain things to twice over.

This trust probably led to a lot of his frustration and inability to explain things with the other survivors: he was so used to being able to work in-sync with Gia that the moment he wound up having to talk to people he hadn't seen in a year, he wasn't making sense, and got frustrated. I'm assuming he also had all sorts of problems readjusting to the mainland: coming back confident and bruised, while having to lie about the second island to keep it secret, undoubtedly made it Very Difficult for him to be wholly open with people. Gia's his Safe Space, though. His confidante. The one person in this whole world he doesn't have to hide anything from.

And she reminds him of that by praising him. Because she, too, can be open around him. No lying about her intereests, no pretending she's someone she isn't....just honesty. And DRAMA. Lots and lots of drama. Look at her little gasp.

Nel negozio dove vado a farmi i tatuaggi hanno fatto un Walk In per il 24 e io non c'ho un soldo...o meglio, li avevo ma i miei sono andati via per il loro anniversario e mia mamma li ha presi e lo stipendio mi arriva a Novembre, perfetto.🙃
