Another birthday. This time it's Benjamin Burb's turn. 🎂🎈
Among the guests were also family members like his cousins Angela and Lilith, and his uncle Daniel Pleasant. 😊
This was so funny. While playing the game I was listening to Spotify, when I checked what Jennifer and John were doing, I found them dancing while this exact song was running in the background. It was hilarious. Idk it just totally gave me that "parents having fun" vibe. 😅
For Thanksgiving, Brad and Tiffany Burb decided it would be better if their parents came to Old Town and stayed in a nearby lodge instead of them visiting SimCity. Brad’s parents were more than thrilled! The same cannot be said for Tiffany’s parents. This is the Burb-Marsh family, having dinner.
(click more to read my headcanon on their characteristics)
Benjamin ‘Grampa Ben’ Burb is a retired insurance salesman who spent most of his life selling insurance door-to-door and on the train when he’s on the way to work. He is an honest and spiffy hardworking family man and has lived in their little apartment since he first got married to his sweetheart Susan, whom he met at the local soda shop. He amused her by sticking straws into his nostrils to imitate a walrus, but did not realize the straws were filled with soda and so he sneezed the soda onto her face. She slapped him but then laughed at him, and the rest is history! Both of them now spend their time renting different movies every night and trying out different restaurants every weekend
Susan ‘Granny Susie’ Burb had worked in the department store of Wrightmann’s for about 40 years when she retired and was known by the frequent customers as Smiley Susan, not because she smiled (she can be a bit of a grouch, really), but because she knew how to chat with the customers. It was she that taught the shy Ben how to schmooze people and made him the way he was. Both Susan and Ben supported Brad on his move to the suburbs, but were both perfectly happy in their old apartment in SimCity. She spoils her grandson Johnny much the same as she spoiled her son Brad.
Brad Burb grew up in the tough streets of SimCity and had started out as a construction worker, having to commute here and there in the packed trains and buses of SimCity to get from one project to another and then back home. He wanted a healthy life for him and his family and decided that the suburbs would fare them better. Now that he spends his time weeding, watering, and souping, Brad has become absolutely passionate about his garden and the wonders of nature.
Tiffany Burb (née Marsh) was a trainee clerk under Susan when Brad came by to pick up his mother and Susan played matchmaker to set them up on a date. Despite their differences, they fell in love, married, and had a precocious child named John. Tiffany was college educated but was not pleased by her parents’ demands that she should find a rich husband and follow in one of their footsteps in terms of career. Instead, she wanted to make it on her own and boy, did she! She wasn’t very pleased, however, when they had to move to the suburbs, but she made do as the breadwinner of the family. She leaves her husband on his own to tend to his garden, and keeps herself occupied with her career.
William ‘Papa Bill’ Marsh is a business executive in the field of finance. Despite the constant crunching of numbers and figures in his job, he has led an exciting life and his romantic exploits are legendary. But when he met Anastasia, he was completely besotted and wooed her for the longest time until she agreed to a marriage--all on her terms. William disapproves of Brad and is not happy that Brad is a house husband and that he had moved the family into the suburbs, and is never short of unwanted opinions on a lot of things.
Anatasia ‘Grandmama’ Marsh is a lawyer who knows her stuff and had to earn her prowess in her business. Still, she was still lucky to have been born as a debutante from a prominent socialite family in SimCity, and had broken many hearts until she met William (after which, she broke some more hearts). She maintains her appearance well and has obviously had work done, and thinks that the middle class life had taken its toll on her daughter. She is the source of many of Tiffany’s physical insecurities and her past eating disorder, but are both now generally amiable until Anastasia drinks just one too many glasses of Vrodka.
John ‘Johnny’ Burb had adjusted well to the life in the suburbs and enjoys cycling through the town with his friends and gee whizz, his beloved dog Tucker, whom he thinks is the best dog in the world! Despite his passion for mud, amphibians, reptiles (he loves his pet terrapin, Tonya, which he will use to scare his Grandmama in a matter of seconds in the picture), and the outdoors, he is still very much his mother’s child as his father tends to be distracted with his own business so his mother was the one who had to pay him more attention. Nevertheless, he still looks up to him as well and is at least thankful that his father can still help him with his history homework (a subject that he despises), even if his mother had to often correct them on the dates and names.
Jennifer brought Stella Roth from work. Be careful John.. Just sayin' 😅
(Explanation: Stella Roth has an affair with Peter Ottomas over in Riverblossom Hills. Stella and Peter outed their relationship on Sharla Ottomas' birthday party. Peter and Samantha Ottomas' marriage is in a deep crisis since then and it was such a huge scandal that everybody over at Riverblossom Hills is gossiping about it. She is known for going after married men so..)
Coral & Jennifer suddenly start singing the school cheer.
Next family in line: The Burbs. The Burbs moved to Pleasantview in the past fall. I thought 225 Main Street would be fitting for them. (Do you get the ballon wallpaper reference?) Here's a little summary of what happened so far:
John always wanted to move back to the suburbs. His bio states that he fondly remembers his childhood and the hours he spent helping out in his parents' garden and hopes to continue this tradition. I think he'd also want to have some more children to pass this tradition to.
Lucy was very happy she's finally living in an environment where she could spend much time outside playing with other kids. Or the fact that her two cousins, Angela and Lilith Pleasant, live just a stone's throw away from her.
Jennifer on the other hand wasn't all too excited to move back to the suburbs. She actually enjoyed the fast-paced life the big city. Besides she wants to establish her own magazine one day and the city had the perfect places and opportunities for this to happen. Now she has a long drive to work and feels disconnected.
It wasn't long after they moved in when Jennifer realized she's pregnant again. Of course John was thrilled. Jennifer by contrast feared this would be the final nail to the coffin of her career. Eventually she came to terms and was looking forward to their bundle of joy.
This said bundle of joy would later be known as Benjamin Burb. He's a toddler by now. John agreed to be a stay at home dad while Jennifer earns the money. She is currently working as a Fact Checker in the Journalism career.
Everything adjusted after a while and the family is living their humble life. But now it's John who's feeling disconnected. He's done with the housework by 12 and spends the rest of the day lying on the sofa, waiting for something to happen finally. Where is this going...?
That's it for now. I know the beginning might be a bit dry but I promise it will get better as soon as we play in the present. ☺
