I'm pretty excited about the upcoming gig by Bennink/ West/ Ex in Toronto on the 22nd. of June. It's at a place called Double Double Land in the Kensington Market area. Their "Let's Go" album of improv push and pull is exactly the kind of racket I love. The irrepressible Han Bennink has sparked up many a performance I've witnessed and his sheer energy belies his senior citizen status. Brodie West is at the centre of one of my favourite bands - Drumheller and has some other way cool projects worth your consideration, not the least being his involvement with the Getachew Mekuria and The Ex project that toured through Ontario a few years back. His connection with the Ex is continued here as Terrie Ex completes this trio and brings his unpredictable guitar styling to the mix. His part in the OffOnOff performance in T.O. a couple of years ago helped make that show one of the most inspiring things I've ever witnessed. Really.
So, not to heap too much anticipation on this event, but you should try to check this out at their gig in Montreal on the 20th, T.O. on the 22nd or on the west coast shortly thereafter. The dates are posted on www.theex.nl . See you there.
