@bennybing This collector from Louisiana, a pretty well off family brought a painting. I asked where's the painting going to be? He said.. “this piece specifically is for our little girl, our daughter. She goes to private school. However, she is the, you know, one of only black girls in the school. So she's surrounded by such whiteness that she doesn't necessarily see herself every single day. So this painting, is specifically for her, so she can see herself represented and have a sense of self, a sense of identity. Every day she walks out of the house into a white world and into a white school…..”Years from now, that girl could talk about this painting that her parents bought for her and how they changed the way she looked at herself in the world that she was growing up in. We can’t keep telling a one sided story. We need to tell all stories.
