Helen watched the footage of the sides of Germany at last reuniting after decades apart. Her and Noelene met eyes, hardly believing that the moment they are witnessing was real.

Helen asked if they could cross back to Berlin, and asking the live-cross what the mood was like over there, viewers soon realised who the reporter on the other end of the line was - Mr Dale Jennings himself.

Dale reported that the people of Germany were still celebrating, popping bottles of champagne, and that thousands were passing through the wall, walking into a new era for Germany and the world.

Dale was bluffing, to a degree. He said so himself to Helen off-air. He was jet-lagged, tired and frozen, only just having arrived. Helen couldn’t help but smile, thrilled to hear his voice and to see him back doing what he loved again; telling stories. She sent him off to explore and find out more, and Dale; after getting his photo taken by his cameraman, followed his captain’s orders; breathing easily and feeling the freedom of this new era ahead too.

How does one recreate the fall of the Berlin Wall here in modern-day Australia? In a tweet from Michael Lucas, he revealed that the production team transformed a part of Melbourne’s Richmond Station into the Wall with “careful shooting and elegant green screen work.” It was timed just right for Dale to grow some rather becoming stubble as well; evidence of his freedom from his former personal image.

A whole crew of extras were hired to play German soldiers and German citizens, and as with everyone else who has appeared on The Newsreader, they were costumed exquisitely by Gypsy Taylor and her costuming team, as seen in these photos shared by Taylah Miller. The lady with the pram was wearing some awesome purple scrunch boots, which were the very boots I wore with my extra costume too! They were super comfortable and looked awesome on both of us. Looks like those boots were made for walking, all over the globe 😉

30 years ago I celebrated the fall of Berlin Wall. I was already in Toronto; this was such a good news, right before my Birthday! 

A few years earlier I was driving from Warsaw to Paris. At some point after leaving Poland there were warning on the highway about not stopping and not getting off the highway for ANY REASON, not even to refuel. Then there was Checkpoint Charlie. My car was checked on the East German side, and I was asked if I have “hidden children”. Sure, in a Fiat 126 with 3 people and a ton  of luggage. The strangest question I was ever asked at any border. I was waved through on West German side. West Berlin looked to me like a Fairlyland. 

This 👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼is the fate of ALL WALLS dividing people, and it will happen to all walls sooner or later. That word on the wall will prevail.

(United States) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Freedom_Day_(United_States)) *World Freedom Day is a US federal observance declared by then-President George W. Bush to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of communist rule in Central and Eastern Europe. I am here holding my own little piece of the Berlin Wall that Danni's Parents brought me f/ their last trip to Berlin. It's pretty cool to have a piece of it.

HISTORY MEME - WORLD VERSION ♛ [01/10] moments : Berlin Wall Fall (9 november 1989)

The date on which the Wall fell is considered to have been 9 November 1989 but the Wall in its entirety was not torn down immediately. Starting that evening and in the days and weeks that followed, people came to the wall with sledgehammers or otherwise hammers and chisels to chip off souvenirs, demolishing lengthy parts of it in the process and creating several unofficial border crossings. These people were nicknamed "Mauerspechte" (wall woodpeckers). The East German regime announced the opening of ten new border crossings the following weekend, including some in historically significant locations (Potsdamer Platz, Glienicker Brücke, Bernauer Straße). Crowds on both sides waited there for hours, cheering at the bulldozers which took parts of the Wall away to reinstate old roads. Photos and television footage of these events is sometimes mislabelled "dismantling of the Wall", even though it was merely the construction of new crossings. New border crossings continued to be opened through the middle of 1990, including the Brandenburg Gate on 22 December 1989. The fall of the Wall was the first step toward German reunification, which was formally concluded on 3 October 1990.
