LET THEM BE LITTLE, LET THEM MAKE A MESS, IN THIS OH SO FLEETING MOMENT OF CHILDHOOD…. Next week utterly delighted that our Autumn Term of Art Play & Connect Programme for 18 months- 4 year olds and their parent resumes, in our studio set up as an experimental Creativity LAB in Berlin. This is a child-led Reggio inspired space where paint oozes and flows all over bodies, paper, card, embraced in between toes and lovingly squeezed from parent to toddler in a hug. The atmosphere can alternate between calm and focussed sitting at the table manipulating clay and developing fine motor skills, and noisier and active rolling on the free painting floor mural with rollers or cars,  exercising those gross motor skills.  It can be quite challenging for adults to let go of the end messy results, asking “What is it supposed to be?!” We talk about asking instead, “What can you see?” giving their child the sense that we all see different things and that’s ok, to help build self-esteem and deepen connections. Parents worry about the final clean up at first, but the pay off is brilliant when we just sit with the moments unfolding in front of us, learning from our child the joyful world of the fearless, curious toddler, that we need to embrace more regularly, to live in all our senses. This is the rawness of childhood, how it’s supposed to be, slowed down time. We don’t often do it at home because we feel we don’t want our apartment redecorated. Kindergartens may avoid as they don’t have enough staff for large scale clean up. We offer 1,5 hours / week over 8 weeks, as space to just sit, crawl or roll in the paint, as you desire, small child and adult together, and afterwards we have a snack, story and share tips and ideas about growing creativity at home, including our top tips for non-messy, messy play at home  😍✨ Interested to join us starting Monday 9th or Tuesday 10th next week? ON THIS DAY 6 - Six?! years ago. 🥰😭 My golly, I couldn’t get enough of this precious messy slowed down time together, sitting quietly observing, or gently oozing paint between my fingers, and assisting when asked, “more paint Mummy.” Still makes me emotional every year it pops up in the social media Time Hop thing. My little artist totally immersed in the joy of her own process, and who inspired me to scratch that itch and finally start up little art as a parent & child process art LAB about a year later. I needed this space as a parent and knew others did too, feeling their frustrations with creativity stifling adult and outcome led Pinterest craft for young toddlers, but they weren’t sure what to do, and didn’t want the mess at home! 😆💡😊 By the way, my toddler loved this wheel only briefly used this one time (our class was at Klax), wet clay slipping and sliding. LET KIDS CRAFT BEAUTIFUL ANIMATIONS WITH THEIR HANDS>>> A joyful mindful afternoon hand making illustrations, and paper cut stop frame animations, letting the ink flow and the scissors snip-snip-snip away! We recently ran an animation workshop for a school group visiting from India with @culturefox, and are now offering this as a workshop for 8+ year olds next weekend. We will co-create mini-scenes of JOURNEYS the kids recount or invent, and make paper puppets through utilising split pins, drawing.  We will investigate simple character and story design, fashion illustration techniques, and learn about the work of illustrators and animators. >>> Positive screen time-Activating kids hands to stop simply scrolling on phones, and instead investing in creativity with capturing beautifully hand made stories.
