Didng see that camera drop but boy is that compost fromt and center lol. I'm applying a top coat treatment of compost than this video to the lawn last week you may remember that we did a dethatching . This morning I did a seeding of the lawn and now I am applying a top coat of compost. Many different things can be used for topcoats I've seen cut grass or hay I've seen peatmoss or top soil. My preference with no surprise is compost. 1.Dethatched (cleaned up after) 2. Good morning #gardenfam today's update is a quick cut on what I've been doing out on the lawn. I have incrementally been bringing the lawn down about half an inch with each cut getting ready for the fall reseeding of the entire of lawn area. My focus in these cuts are one to pick up as much debris is possible but to my main point is letting that seed get as much seed to ground contact as possible and my best way of doing that is by cutting low. The reason I've broken it up is because you want to traumatize the lawn plant as little as possible and doing one big hack would probably do more harm than good in bringing down the length of those long blades. I did notice over the last week while making my way down lower and lower in the lawn that I do have quite a bit of thatch buildup so I will be power raking that out just because I want to make sure my seat has the best chance possible at getting seed to ground contact and all of the nutrients and stuff that I'll be adding on top I want to make sure as getting to that seed and not getting stuck in the thatch. I am a big supporter of thatch in a lawn I think it helps you get through the summer by holding and moisture it's also a great place for bacteria and single celled organisms that we count on and need to kind of do their thing there is a good bit of composting happening in the lower levels of the thatch thatch is good but in this situation we're trying to grow new grass seed I want to make sure that the seat is able to get to the ground.
