Hello, Stevetonies! Once upon a time, Cap-IM maintained a beta list, which was besieged by the passage of time, fannish drift, and the rise and fall of various social platforms. Your mods have been hard at work and we’re thrilled to re-debut, in 2025: the beta network!
Please note: signing up for the beta list does not obligate you to participate in events! It simply aggregates contact info, expertise, and preferences so that artists and writers in our fandom can more easily find those equipped to help them Finish That Fic.
Sign up for beta/other fannish support work HERE.
If you have questions or concerns, we’d love to help. Let us know.
So i’ve noticed a lot of people when they publish their fics, they say they have no medical knowledge, so they don’t know if what they are writing is accurate. I’m a nursing student and I’d love to help people out with questions if they have any when it comes to writing their fics.
How I can help/not help
I’m pretty good with emergency surgery and trauma
If you have (basic) questions about hospital stays/medicine/surgery
I’m not always fast at replying (ask anyone who knows me)
I’m not an expert in most medical fields (especially cancer and pregnancy), but i do have a general understanding of most fields.
I’ll probably be best at answering specific questions, as i’m not very good at plots/creative writing.
I know little to nothing on how the medical system works outside of western europe
I do know how socialised medicine works
Also to all fic writers thank you for creating your stories!
Hi sweetheart. Thank you so much for volunteering to med pick!! That’s super helpful. Would you mind if I add you to my beta list?
A list of betas for the 2022 TS-Storytime Big Bang! This will detail the beta’s URL, beta type(s), preferred genres, genres that make them uncomfortable, and any other additional information.
The beta types are:
Developmental beta: I’d like to help create the plot and help the writer shape the story.
Basic beta: editing for spelling/grammatical errors, or things like consistency in the story.
Cheerleading beta: Cheering for the writer to keep going!
This list has been posted in order of their sign-up. If a beta chooses to no longer be available, DM me, and this list will be updated for their url to be struck through like this. Updated as of 5/1/22.
@edupunkn00b
Beta types: Developmental, basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: Not really
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: Anything that would require a major archive warning tag on AO3 (not really a genre, but...)
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: Boundless enthusiasm? :D
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: Areas of expertise include film production, math, science and engineering. :)
@remi-remy-remus
Beta types: Developmental, basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: I am best with romantic Dukeceit and/or Prinxiety fics set in the canon universe, but these are not non-negotiable terms, they're simply the types of fics I have the most experience with.
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: Romantic Intrulogical, Intruality, Roceit, Moceit, Moxiety, Royality, and Logince are all at varying degrees of ick for me, and I would prefer not to work with them, especially Intrulogical and Moxiety, if at all possible.
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: I would consider my best field as a beta to be developmental, seeing as I'm the type of person to have millions of headcanons and fic ideas and AU's swirling around my head at any moment, but I also have better grammar and spelling skills than almost anyone I know and I'll most likely be enthusiastic about whatever idea you decide to write, and the only criticism I ever give is constructive.
@youronelesbianfriend
Beta types: Developmental, basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: Cool with just about any
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: Just no unsymp patton
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: N/A
@eftelpe
Beta types: Developmental, basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: Any
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: Any
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: My timezone is EST if that helps with coordinating times
@starshineandbooks
Beta types: Developmental, basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: I really enjoy fantasy, angst, hurt comfort, and found family.
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: Anything that borders rape, explicit or not.
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: I'm from a southern family, and also know an absurd amount about cooking, music, and Shakespeare's English.
@violetgauze
Beta types: Developmental, basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: Anything focused on characters/relationships/emotions
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: Anything particularly plot driven/fantasy/smut
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: i've written a lot of fanfiction myself
@pulchrasilva
Beta types: Basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: no strong preferences, but fantasy/scifi/etc or canonverse are what I'm most familiar with
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: no unhappy endings (bittersweet is ok), ideally no major character death or extreme gore but that's not a hard limit
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: I study Latin so I know quite a bit about ancient Rome, especially relating to magic, superstition. I work best with imagery/description and more introspective parts of a story, and I'm quite good at spotting spelling/grammar errors
@anxious-logic
Beta types: Developmental, basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: N/A
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: NSFW, any unsympathetic sides, unhappy endings, horror/gore
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: Nope
@i-will-physically-fight-you
Beta types: Developmental, basic
Preferred genres: I'm very much a sci-fi/fantasy type of gal but I'm fine with helping out with canon-alignment fics!
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: I'd prefer not to work with nsfw fics and if romance is the main focus of the fic I might not be the best in terms of helping out since I myself don't write it often
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: I'm great at brainstorming ideas and I will always ask your preferences on what you, the writer, wants from a beta to ensure my beta'ing is helpful. I've beta'd for friends and fandom events on-and-off for five years now and I've been writing for longer than that. I have my personal opinions on grammar and fiction writing (i.e what constitutes as good foreshadowing, character development, etc) but I'm also careful to be upfront if what I'm suggesting is more of a *personal* preference vs. a more broad writing norm.
@5-falsehoods-phonated
Beta types: Basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: I don't have a genre preference
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: I'm fine with any genre
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: I'm good with general story plot and dialog flow, as well as sentence structure and word choice. If something doesn't sound quite right I'm good at offering a couple to a few suggestions on how to fix it.
@log-makes-a-family
Beta types: Developmental, basic
Preferred genres: no preference
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: NSFW
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: I tend to need resolution, I don't sit well with ambiguous or unhappy endings
@icecoldflames
Beta types: Basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: Fantasy, romance, human AU’s, and Harry Potter AU’s
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: Smut, historical AU’s, dark fics (excessive death, rape, torture etc.)
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: Looking out for consistency is probably not my specialty but grammar, spelling, and cheerleading is something I can do!
@iclaimedtobethebetterbard
Beta types: Developmental, basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: I have the most expertise in fantasy, and I also really like human AUs or college AUs. I'm willing to work with anything though!
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: This isn't a genre, but I'm not comfortable working with stories where Logicality is the main ship or heavily featured; I'd also prefer to steer clear of anything gore-heavy. Aside from that, I'm down for anything.
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: I've been writing original fiction for over eight years, and am the president of my college's creative writing club, so hopefully I know my stuff, haha. I'm most familiar with fantasy, so I can provide the most detailed level of help with that, but I'm very comfortable with pretty much any genre.
@soft-smol-butterfly
Beta types: Developmental, cheerleading
Preferred genres: Angst, whump, generally darker themes but I'll work with anything
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: N/A
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: I am very good with writing romance, u!sides (not Virgil though for some reason) hanhaki disease, toxic relationships, unhinged characters
@virgil-has-a-houseplant
Beta types: Basic
Preferred genres: As I will be beta-ing for grammar/spelling and general cohesion, I can't say I have any genre preferences.
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: I am comfortable with most of the popular fanfiction genres and tags.
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: I am confident in my ability to assess writing for errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. and can provide reputable sources if authors have any discrepancies. University has rotted my brain cells. =')
Having read my fair share of fanfiction and fiction novels alike, I can also provide an average level of constructive feedback on the plot, characters, pacing, tension, etc. if the author wishes. I will not comment on this unless requested.
I'm looking forward to helping some writers publish great work for the fandom!!
@annaizscribbling
Beta types: Developmental
Preferred genres: I like working with character analysis centered stories
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: I'd prefer to work on something not revolving around romance
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: I work well with character studies and emotional growth
@poettheythem
Beta types: Developmental, cheerleading
Preferred genres: Any really. Though probably fantasy or superhero’s I’m best at
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: Smut
Additional info, such as areas of expertise: I can’t make it to the ending July ones because I’m going to be away from my phone then but I will help as mush as I can before that. Also I’m also a writer(not for this challenge because again in going to be away for posting it and also like the last two check ins) but I also loving helping with ideas and I love cheering people on
@remy-the-lemon-berry
Beta types: Developmental, basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: literally anything dark. heavy angst, whump, hurt/comfort—i love it all. if it has a big fucking TW in the beginning, i’m interested.
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: soulmate aus, u!logan, logicality, dukexiety, and intruality. i’m also not very good with domestic fluff, particularly with family-related topics
Additional info: with developmental editing, i’m good at bouncing ideas off of and coming up with little plot points. for basic editing, i’m best with grammar and vocab rather than consistency. also, if anyone needs to look up anything but they don’t want to tarnish their search history with something fucked up, i’ll gladly research it for them. uhhhh i don’t think i have anything else
@8beez
Beta types: Developmental, basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: fiction: specifically fantasy, historical, or sci fi, but anything works
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: I'd prefer not to work with stories that just have u!janus and/or u!remus (with the other sides being victims) but I can do it
Additional info: I'm in an English usage class right now, so I have a pretty good grasp of english rules + i have creative writing experience
@halfwaytoqueens
Beta types: Basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: Not particularly, tho I do love me some good angst or hurt/comfort
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: unsympathetic sides and romantic ships involving Patton
Additional info: I teach English as a second language in secondary schools so spelling and grammar checking is literally part of my job xD
@korruptbrekker
Beta types: Basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: I'm open to just about anything. :)
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: -Whump
-Gore
-Major character death
-Unhappy endings (bittersweet is fine)
-Non-con
-Romantic Moxiety

Preferred genres: Anything goes (that's not mention below)
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: Self-harm, suicide, rape or assault, major character death, intense self deprecation

@antisocial-xxxpert
Beta types: Developmental, cheerleading
Preferred genres: Any including nsfw
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: none
Additional info: jewelry and diamonds
@kiapet2
Beta types: Developmental, basic, cheerleading
Preferred genres: None
Genres they’d prefer to avoid: I'm okay with some level of smut but don't really want to work with stories wholly focused on that, also I am uncomfortable with stuff like a/b/o or mpreg (unless they're trans which is fine). Also no remrom or Thomas/Side shipping please
Additional info: I am a therapist with a background in social work, so I can be consulted for mental health and/or US social system fact checking and story advice!

Authors, feel free to reach out to the blogs below if you’re looking for a beta to see if they would be a good fit for you. Some things we encourage you to chat about beforehand include fic length, any potentially uncomfortable content, and preferred feedback style. As always, let us know if there is any way we can help you during this process. Happy writing/reading!
For anyone who is looking for a beta/supporter to help them out with their fic, this is the list you are looking for! This list will be updated as more people sign up (which you can do by filling out this form) so if you haven't found someone you think could help you out with what you're looking for, make sure to check back occasionally.
For anyone who wants to make use of a beta from this list please keep the following in mind:
We have not included emails, since this list is available for anyone with a link. If you've messaged someone but they haven't replied, please notify the fest blog and we will reach out to the beta for you.
Take notice of the likes and dislikes in particular! Please don't reach out to someone who has included certain topics on their list of things they're not comfortable with if any of those topics are (going to be) in your fic
Sometimes a beta might say no to working with you. Please don't take this personally, and don't get disheartened. Let us know if we can help in some way!
We also have some additional information for our wonderful supporters who have signed up:
If you have signed up as a beta and someone has approached you and you're now working together, and thus you would like to be taken off the list, please let us know!
If someone reaches out to you, you are under no obligation to say yes to working with them.
If someone approaches you and you find that their fic will include themes that you're uncomfortable with, please don't hesitate to reach out towards us. We want this fest to be a safe space for authors and supporters alike!
Now that everything is said and done, here is the link for the supporters list!
