Bad betta owners irl
(if youre the owners of these accounts, fite me.)
saw this monstrosity on instagram. i can only pray that this poor guy was just in there for a picture and put back into a big tank. this is worse than the cups most chains sell them in
this is probably the worst one ive ever seen not gonna lie
absolutely HATE when someone posts a picture (mainly on IG) of a betta and is like ‘lol hope this one lives more than a month this time’ like that’s so fucked to go into caring for a pet with that mindset. you would never do that with a cat or dog or literally any other animal
Tw for the rant ahead: depression, animal abuse, Wal-Mart We were at Wal-Mart just to grab some paper towels but they're by the fish so we went to look at them. Overstocked tanks, ammonia filled water, dead fish in most of them, fish starving so much they were eating the dead ones, deformities, betta water so murky you could barely see the fish. Two betta cups were so bad that I took it upon myself to do a full water change right there at their little sink. Camille (my wife) and i both went to customer service and filed formal complaints about the mistreatment of the animals. I dont care who the fuck you are. I dont care what type of pet you have. Do your fucking research, and do your utmost to make that pet as healthy and happy as possible. Or don't have animals. Period. I dont care if your betta/goldish/etc was 'just fine in a bowl.' They live longer, look healthier and are actually happier in the right size aquariums.
For the record, i know I didn't save those betta fish. All i did was make it a little easier to breath for a little bit.
Walmart Called Me
I just off off the phone with Walmart. Someone from their customer service got a hold of me about my betta complaint. I called him out on his bullshit because he tried to blame the companies they buy the fish from for their poor health. I told him I’ve actually worked for Walmart and Meijer and been in trouble for trying to take proper care of the betta fish. I told him they do NOT have proper care policies like he tried to tell me. I told him their entire company does not take care of betta, I told him I was apart of a betta community where people post pictures of abused fish they find. I tried to inform him on why the cups were terrible. I told him they’re losing money even carrying them because I get most of my rescues for free, and that they just toss them in the garbage when they die and mark it off. I went off on them in the most polite way I could. Please, I urge everyone to hold their Walmart’s accountable for the poor betta care. Blast them on Twitter with photos of the improper care. They are listening, and they are responding. If enough people express their outrage about the care, they are bound to do something positive.
Meet McCree. I paid full price for him and got him the hell out of there, regardless. I'm going to post this pic on Twitter, and blast Walmart for their neglect. He's in a spare heated and filtered 3 gallon, and is going to stay there until I feel it's safe to put him in a split with Panko.
thought i might make a betta twitter and the first thing i see when searching ‘betta fish’ is a girl with 2 female bettas in a gallon bowl and they were tearing one another apart and she didn’t have a net so she was just stabbing at them with a pencil! i am deleting my account :)
Ha haa I thought this was a cute tank decor but actually it's a betta "tank". Kill me??
