I think my poor Finnigan has pop eye :(( I haven’t even had him for 3 days barely and I just noticed it this morning. Nitrate/nitrite/amonia is 0/0/0 and pH is ~7.1 the tank temp is holding steady at 78°, and everything else seems to be fine with him. He’s eating great, he’s moving around, he’s super feisty and adorable. I don’t know what I could’ve done wrong :(( I’ve started a little bit of a BettaFix treatment to see if that would help. I don’t know what else to do. I’ve read pop eye is easier to prevent than it is to treat, I just wish I would’ve started a treatment when I got him just in case. I’ve also read that pop eye usually isn’t fatal so I’m just hoping this doesn’t take my new buddy from me. :((

If anyone has any advice PLEASE let me know

OK i’m dedicating a whole post to this. Is that dark spot on his fin a fungal or parasitic infection? Do i need to go out and get medication for him? I am moving him out of this cramped bowl and into a 5.5 gal as soon as it finishes cycling. And if this is something i need to treat please tell me i want to be able to medicate him ASAP!!

So Viserion has a pretty good sized hole in his tail which I just found, and the edges of it are white. What I think could have happened is that it was newly grown tissue that was thin and then got ripped somehow... but is there any possibility it's something worse? I don't think fin rot usually comes with white edges, but could it be fungal? Water params are all good, I just tested them yesterday.

Hey Bettablr, does this look more like ich or cotton wool disease to you? He has white fluffy stuff on his head, gill, and eyeball. Water parameters are good, except for temp which is 75 because my heater is broken and new one has not come in yet. The disease was likely brought on by the stress from a tank upgrade… He’s on metroplex (which can treat ich but probably not cotton) and aquarium salt right now.

Moony update sept 24 He’s going really well, very active, eating whole pellets now, gaining a lot of color, starting some fin recovery- but the kanaplex isn’t doing much about his popeye. I don’t know whether to try again in a week or to find a different medication. @jayce-space @bubble-babble do you have any advice?

Treating Velvet - Day 1

This is my fish named Velvet. You might have come across him on my blog. He’s a very handsome crowntail Betta splendens, who lives in a well-spaced 60l (15 gal) tank with some snail buddies.

Ironically Velvet has come down with an ugly parasite disease called velvet.

of course I decided to treat him asap. After getting some advice from the fishblr community I bought a copper treatment called Oodinol and a copper testing kit (had to go back to the store because the saleswoman “forgot” to tell me I needed the test kit as well...)

Fortunatelly I already had a spare 15l (4 gal) tank. After cleaning it thoroughly I filled it with 50% tap water and 50% tank water and raised the temp from 25°C (77°F) to 27°C (80°F). I also took the air operated filter from his old tank and put it in the quarantine tank. And I put some wood and a swimmng plant in it so he could have some places to hide.

The towel helps keeping the tank dark since the parasite needs light to survive.

The treatment with Oodinol takes 10 days and I’ll start tomorrow so Velvet has some time to get used to his new home. I’ll keep you postet.
