Episodes Season 2: Episode 4.

What an episode of Episodes. It’s in season two (the depressing season because Sean & Bev have spilt up) & it continues to go on about the numbers for Pucks! & Merc’s complaints about it which I kinda felt got a bit old (I wasn’t a big fan of Merc or the continuous reference to ‘the talking dog show’)

Sean accidentally friending Matt’s stalker on Facebook & Bev just being horrified that Sean is on Facebook is some of the highlights of this episode. Yet, as I seem to do for most of the episodes of this show I always end up facepalming every time Matt opens his mouth & something stupid comes out of it (it happened a lot) because goddamit Matt stop making these life choices & even though I love him. It was fun to watch him be excluded from Pucks! For a little while & his in depth conversation with Bev & Sean about it & of course Matt getting drunk in a bar & Bev & Sean having to go sort him out is usually an episode highlight.

As always I love the Carol & Bev friendship. I’m glad she made a friend even though it was someone as neurotic as Carol & it was quite sad when Bev was talking about how she misses Sean. Yet I still find the Bev-Matt-Sean incident a tricky one. That’s a whole other post right there to be honest.

Morning giving Sean that pen. I was not expecting that to be what those words meant. Idk what it is but I just found their relationship really uncomfortable but that pen had me cackling.

Finally, the ice rink scene. Wow. I mean it both warmed my heart & made me a bit sad at the same time because the Bev & Sean interactions were so gentle & kind but they’re still broken up.

Bev talking about not being able to skate with Sean was very humorous. Bev’s “are you forgetting Zurich” made me smile & somehow reminded me of Green Wing because Mangan’s character was always saying “See you in Zurich” & as it turns out Mangan actually invented that himself so perhaps they added a Zurich mention as a shout to Green Wing or is it just a coincidence. Who knows but then there’s always that ongoing Episodes joke about Sean’s other career path being a doctor so who knows & if it was intentional then I feel like there’s probably some inside joke somewhere or Mangan’s just obsessed with Zurich because he brings it up in a show he wrote last year. Who knows but this whole scene was gold. Especially Bev’s line “I distinctly remember being peeled off the ice with a spatula.” & Sean’s response “I promise you there will be no little kamikaze Swiss children trying to take you down.” It just reminds me of something Caroline Todd & Guy Secretan would talk about in Green Wing...

Then the skating bit itself. It still gets me how Bev thinks everyone doesn’t like her the poor dear but thoughts of that were forgotten during the incredibly heart warming skating scene where Sean is helping her skate (she had the best job in the world) & for a second you think they’re going to sort out their differences but nope! Just like a Friends episode, the break never seems to end.

I honestly didn’t know what you wanted me to say I have actually thought that perhaps you wanted me to just give you the episode number & if that is the case I’m sorry for this analysis. I don’t get asks especially about something that means a lot to me which Episodes does.
