The question of the existence of extraterrestrial life is intriguing, raises questions and ignites my imagination. Inspired by a fictional world of my own, as well as the structure and movement of birds, I have created shoes that fit the human foot, but echo hybrids from an imaginary world. By means of individual points of contact with the ground, the shoes create a feeling of floating and weightlessness, as if they existed in distant space, but the legality of the gravitational pull remains intact, stabilizes the body and connects it to reality.”

Materials: Carbon Fiber, Crystalline Epoxy, Goat Skin, Stainless Steel, Automobile Paint, Scuba Fabric.

In the words of the artist: “Our personal space or body territory is regarded as a protective sheath that shields our body and marks the boundary between internal and external. This visible or invisible shield may be perceived as an additional layer of skin that covers our spiritual body. This collection of clothing articles explores the physical sense of space within a protective cover. These designs were inspired by insect cocoons, which may demonstrate the ambivalent relations between living bodies and empty space. These models are based on basic figures and cuts, which are designed to be wider in certain parts. As such, they create empty spaces and distances between the garment and the wearer’s body. As a result, we are able to sense the pronounced difference between the body’s natural form and the boundaries of surrounding space. Conflicting sensations of attraction and repulsion, of concealment and exposure, are felt due to the tension between the stiff metal parts and the soft fabric filling.”

In the words of the artist: “A light box. On top of it is a sketch. On top of that is a piece of fabric. On the side are organized triangles in perfect order. I begin: The first piece is the most important in order to begin in the middle. I take a deep breath and glue it. And then another piece joins, the spaces are exact and the corners are important. Each triangle gets my full attention, and then it happens: you begin to see a pattern. Slowly it becomes from a piece of fabric to a surface full of triangles, indicating various possibilities of folding. I respond to this possibility and begin to fold: facet to facet, edge to edge, connections are formed. I play with possibilities until I achieve a structure and volume, becoming a packaging like a box. The material which began without a form has become, full of potential for folding, to become a bag with volume. Volume that corresponds with the body.”

In the words of the artist: “The inspiration for my final project is my repeating nightmares. In my dreams I see haunted women whose private spaces are invaded. These women strive constantly to regain their control over their lives and bodies. The collection creates a hybridization between the pure untouched bodies to the foreign body that takes over. In a free and intuitive style, I created enormous volumes that inhale the human body. I made layered textures that simulate veins, vessels and fats. These threatening silhouettes are displayed in quiet and harmonious hues which bring peace to my chaotic psyche.”

In the words of the artist: “This project is an investigation into basic shoe design. The search for the limitations of the shoe as a functional item worn on feet and as a static or dynamic object has expanded the scope of this study regarding the functional aspects of shoes. Like typical natural processes, the designs of these shoes are recurrent and changing. They appear as certain shapes and then shed them within a continuum of closed and open forms. Theses shoes were crafted from leather. Metal press-studs contribute to the functionality of these designs and allow the wearer to redefine and reconstruct the shape of each shoe. The experience of wearing each of these models is unique; Every time it is worn is an inspiring and interesting game.”
