Happy Bellarke Family Selfie Night and Gratitude Night!!! Is 6x11 our Episode??? Who Knows! All I know is how grateful I am to have met all of you the past year. The laughs, the gifs, the fics. I am so happy I made the switch from the Hell App to Tumblr. I am so happy so many people I was following from Timeless seemed to be reblogging this weird scene of a guy and girl sitting around a campfire or some weird hug in a cell. It brought me to this awesome fandom. Let’s face it, sometimes the fandom is better than the show!
I was tagged by the sweet @icantloseyou-too and @thelittlefanpire as always, tagging those of you who are too shy to post on your own. Come out of the wood work. Post that selfie. This could be our night. But, let’s face it, almost anything is going to be a let down after Romantic CPR! Actually, anything is going to be a letdown after Beliza eloping in Hawaii, LBR.
I’m not feeling the selfie mood, so have pics of my monsters when they were youngins. I think this was 2006? Thomas the Tank. All that red hair in the sun, but still I would go back to those days in an instant. Where is the anamoly when you need it.
You work with glass? :O
yeah in theory. haven't had the chance to in while tho. this is the like. Main thing I've done
i forgot that i had my mother bring over the OG boy tits (bottom) the other day so i could do a comparison between them and the newer ones. Like, the og were made in 2hrs from scraps as a joke, but i didn't expect the difference between them and the new ones to be so drastic.
The biggest difference is the face i think. The og pair has one piece of glass to be both of the birds faces, while the other uses 2, with the features being soldered on instead of just painted on with enamel.
like the new ones are over all much cleaner even if i still have Issues with them bc i made them without using a grinder just to prove you Could do SG without one, but I'm still proud of them. Like, I'm proud of all 4 of my sons, but the younger 2 are my favorites (don't tell their brothers)
Do you have any tips on avoiding getting splinters from tiny shards of glass while making stained glass art?
cutting on top of a waffle grid like this can help a lot, it catches all the little shards and keeps them from traveling. Gardening gloves are also helpful for both splinter prevention and burn prevention.
but like,,, also get a pair of tweezers and some strong tape for splinter removal since it seems theyll happen no matter what
New tits. I made these without a grinder just to like. prove you don't need one in that tutorial post. which means they aren't up to snuff for my current standards so they'll be staying with me.
do you have a specific tag for your art?
nope I'm so bad at tagging I needed a different blog to find and store my art and am considering making ANOTHER blog on top of that for all the doodles that don't make it onto the portfolio blog.
anyways it's @bitchfitch-finale and the writing one is @bitchfitch-omnibus
sorry I was wondering where u got ur 8 dollar soldering gun, I've been wanting to get back into glasswork but so much of the equipment is so expensive
I got it at a local craft store, similarly cheap ones seem to be available at like, large Walmarts and hobby lobby, something something, use this life hack if you're going to get one from either place, however i don't actually recommend doing that.
those irons are meant for like, small tech projects where the iron is only on for a few minutes at a time. large stained glass pieces can require it to be on and at full blast for hours straight since you kinda need to do everything on each side in one go. otherwise the oxide layer that forms causes some Issues with getting things neat and later interferes with the tarnish.
The one I bought started melting itself after a few months of use, i think it survived 3 or 4 projects though.
you also really need a rheostat to control the temperature of things a little better, it gives you more control over how liquid the solder gets. important because if it gets too hot it'll seep between the pieces and pool under them instead of sitting pretty on top. too cold and you'll end up with blobs and sharp points. an external rheostat/iron stand combo thing is your best bet since the rheostat and iron can be replaced and upgraded separately, and also because irons with internal rheostats tend to stop working a lot faster as they cook their components. they cost more to replace and need to be replaced more often.
if you do decide to get a real cheap iron to start, just to make sure you dig the craft before investing the extra 30$, get something in the 40watt range with a flat chisel tip and plan to use 60/40 solder. that should give you the best results even if you'll need to stop and let it cool down every now and then.
also soldering guns and irons are different things. the guns are a lot more expensive and don't usually work for stained glass. (i have tried, my landlord gave me one he didn't want to pay return shipping on. it sucks so bad for SG but maybe there's ones that don't idk)
