Madhya Pradesh High Court has declared the 'disputed' Bhojshala temple complex as a Hindu temple due to overwhelming evidence- Islamic namaz needs to be done elsewhere
BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh high court on Friday recognised the disputed Bhojshala complex as the temple of Goddess Vagdevi (Saraswati).
Justices Vijay Kumar Shukla and Alok Awasthi quashed the earlier order by Archaeological Survey of India’s (ASI) in 2003 that had allowed Muslims to offer Islamic prayers at the site. In 2003, during Basant Panchami (a major festival linked to Goddess Saraswati worship), over one lakh Hindu devotees gathered at the site, demanding unrestricted right to worship. This mobilization was supported by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Protests and attempts to march toward the complex led to tensions. Police imposed curfew orders, and there were reports of firing, deaths, and arrests. Now, 13 years later, Hindus finally have the right to worship in this temple. The High Court said, “We have noted the continuity of Hindu worship at the site through regulated worship over time, which has never been extinguished.”
Bhojshala temple, Vagdevi (Saraswati) temple built by Paramara dynasty in 1034. The temple was attacked and partially destroyed by Allauddin Khilji in the 13th century and renamed as Kamal Maula Masjid. Under the British Raj, state court declared it a Mosque, despite having all archeological evidence and Sanskrit inscription, and local Hindus having an unbroken tradition of doing worship near the temple. The British also stole the Murti of Vagdevi, and today it is at display in the British Museum.
The Muslims had painted the temple walls in green and white, and put a chadar and tried to pretend like it's a mosque.
Hindus were killed and shot to death, Hindus had to go to the court just to prove that this is a Hindu temple so that they can have the right to worship Devi Parameshwari in their own temple. Never ever forget that.
Meanwhile Islamist thugs like Asaduddin Owaisi, who are still somehow allowed in India, are saying that this case should be taken to the Supreme Court. The audacity.

Bhojshala of Raja Bhoj and the Sanskrit Connection
Bhojshala of Raja Bhoj and the Sanskrit Connection
Bhojshala is one of India’s most important historical and cultural heritage sites. Located in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, Bhojshala is closely associated with Raja Bhoj, the legendary ruler of the Paramara dynasty known for promoting Sanskrit, education, literature, and Indian culture.
Bhojshala of Raja Bhoj is believed to have been an ancient Sanskrit learning center dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the deity of wisdom and knowledge. Historians believe that students and scholars studied Sanskrit grammar, Vedas, philosophy, astronomy, and literature at this institution during the 11th century. The Sanskrit inscriptions and carvings found at Bhojshala strongly reflect its connection with ancient Indian education and scholarly traditions.
The Bhojshala Sanskrit connection is considered highly significant because Sanskrit was the main language of education and intellectual discussions during Raja Bhoj’s reign. Raja Bhoj himself authored several Sanskrit texts and encouraged scholars from across India to contribute to literature and philosophy.
Bhojshala Temple vs Kamal Maula Mosque Debate
The Bhojshala-Kamal Maula dispute has remained a sensitive historical and religious issue for decades. Hindus consider Bhojshala a Saraswati temple and an ancient center of Sanskrit learning, while Muslims identify the site as the Kamal Maula Mosque, where Friday namaz had been offered for many years.
In 2024, the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a scientific survey by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to study the historical nature of the complex. The ASI report stated that several parts of the structure showed evidence of temple architecture and Sanskrit inscriptions linked to the Paramara period.
In May 2026, the Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that Bhojshala is primarily a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati and quashed the earlier ASI arrangement that allowed Friday namaz at the complex. The court also directed authorities to manage the site accordingly.
However, Muslim organizations and the Kamal Maula Mosque committee have announced plans to challenge the verdict in the Supreme Court, making the matter legally and historically significant even today.

Big Verdict In Bhojshala Dispute Case
The Indore Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has ruled that the Bhojshala complex in Dhar is associated with Maa Saraswati (Maa Vagdevi) and linked to King Bhoj, granting Hindus the right to worship at the site.
After the verdict, Hyderabad MLA T. Raja Singh urged PM Narendra Modi to support the construction of a grand temple at Bhojshala, similar to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
Key highlights: • Court recognized Bhojshala as a Saraswati temple site • Hindus granted worship rights • 98-day scientific ASI survey considered in the case • Earlier arrangement allowing namaz reportedly cancelled • Government asked to consider alternative land for Muslim side • Discussions begin over return of an idol kept in a London museum
The verdict has triggered strong political and religious reactions across the country, while the Muslim side is considering further legal options.
