The Parting of the Waters or The Folding of the Lake It is a well-known fact that many cultures and religions, before as well as after, borrowed or adapted stories and myths from previous cultures. In this case, specifically from Ancient Egypt. The parting of the Red Sea by Moses from the Old Testament (Exodus 14: 19-31) can with plausibility be argued that it derived from the story of an Ancient Egyptian tale known as ‘Baufra’s Tale’ (Papyrus Westcar - Berlin Papyrus 3033 - column 4, line 17, [red] through column 6, line 22, [black]) - 📸 4) Story Comparison: 1. Moses parted the Red Sea for the Israelites to pass through and evade the incoming danger of the Egyptian army. When he and his people were safely on the other side, Moses then returned the waters to their proper place, thus drowning the Egyptian army - 📸 2 ~ Ten Commandments Movie) 2. The Pharaoh summons the lector priest known as Djadjaemankh to retrieve the “…fish shaped pendant of real turquoise…” for one of his royal female rowers. The priest speaks a spell, which make the lake fold on itself “the water, it being 12 cubits (deep) in the middle ended up 24 cubits after it was folded over.” Then, Djadjaemankh retrieving the pendant “lying on a turtle shell” returned it to it’s mistress, and then “he said his magic spell once more and brought (returned) these waters of the lake to their position.” - 📸 3 ~ Egyptian Tales, First Series, IVth To XIIth Dynasty).
