Hamstring Injury and why Biceps Femoris gets a bad rap
Hamstring Injury and why Biceps Femoris gets a bad rap
Hamstring injury happens frequently in running-based sports such as athletics, football and rugby – But over 80% of these occur in the outer hamstring when the leg is swinging through – why is that?
It is often thought that hamstrings are injured from changes in direction, pushing off and explosive movements but in reality, most hamstring injury happens when the leg is swinging through, just…

The thigh
The thigh is the area between the pelvis and the knee. We divide the thigh into three compartments: anterior, medial, and posterior.

Strengthening Your Legs
Weak legs can be a problem. Actually having weaknesses in your legs can lead to all sort of problems from back pain to your knees.
Your Knees
Weak quadriceps can lead to a complete lack of support for your knees. Every time you take a step, the joints between your femur your tibia take pressure and impact. As time goes by, the tissue, cartilage and overall protection between bones may wear, leaving you at risk.
Increasing the muscle mass around the knees in your vastus medius and your vastus lateralus builds an extra system of support to your knees and joints. Increased mass in the calf muscles can absorb impact as well.
Muscle Imbalances
You can have problems with your back, because of your hamstrings, simply because tight hamstrings create limitations in postural movements.
Stretching your hamstrings, increases flexibility and blood flood to the area.
Over working your quadriceps muscle groups can lead to an imbalance in hamstring weakness, so it is important to not forget them and train your biceps femoris too.
Aesthetic Legs = Athletic Legs
Good legs look good.
That was my alternate title for that paragraph, but I liked the clever word play of the one I went with. I stand by it.
When you put the hard work in to strengthen your legs, you will have far more aesthetically pleasing results you can be proud of.
But leg work outs can be hard and should be hard.
Leg Biohack
One training biohack I love to use for legs is the kneeling stand. It’s basically standing up from a kneel position using only your legs and unassisted by your arms.
A great balance exercise and it helps work your vmos and adds to burning a little extra body fat.
Train Legs Hard
Friends don't let friends forget leg day.
Legs need to be trained hard to grow, but that doesn't mean you can't thoroughly enjoy a good leg workout.
It's a body part that takes up half your body, so you want them to look their best, but also to assist you in day to day life.
Many people take the upper body only approach to building muscle and end up with these horrible lopsided bodies that are top heavy and look kind of ridiculous.
Just look up "every day is upper body day" for a good laugh.

Exercise The Right Way - The Back Squat
Exercise The Right Way - The Back Squat By Richard Mitchell
Other articles in this series looked at a number of exercises, mainly from the perspective of developing a comprehensive muscle building program. Sometimes we take things for granted, especially when it comes to performing the basic exercises that constitute the core of most bodybuilders' training regimes. It is useful, therefore, to describe in detail the processes involved in actually doing these exercises. This will help beginners to start out using the correct techniques before moving on to potentially more dangerous heavy weights. If it also helps more experienced lifters to redress some of the little faults that have almost imperceptibly crept in over the years, all the better. In this article we'll take a close look at the back squat. MUSCLES TARGETED: gluteus maximus, semimembranosus, semitendinosus, biceps femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius, vastus medialis, rectus femoris STARTING POSITION Grasp the bar with a closed pronated grip. Step under the bar and position the feet parallel to each other. Place the bar in a balanced position on the upper back and shoulders. Hold the chest up and out. Pull the scapulae toward each other. Tilt the head slightly up. Extend the knees and hips to lift the bar. Take one or two steps. Place the feet shoulder width apart, even with each other with the toes pointed slightly outward. This is the starting point for all repetitions. DOWNWARD MOVEMENT Allow the hips and knees to slowly flex. Maintain a flat back, high elbows, with the chest up and out. Keep the heels on the floor with the knees aligned over the feet. Keep flexing the hips and knees until the thighs are parallel to the floor. UPWARD MOVEMENT Extend the hips and knees at the same rate. Maintain a flat back, high elbows, with the chest up and out. Keep the heels on the floor with the knees aligned over the feet. Keep extending the hips and knees to return to the starting position. Repeat or finish set.
