Glad to see I'm not the only one comparing Izzy's death to Dean and going "yeah no this wasn't an act of calculated hatred toward queer people y'all, this wasn't devoid of love or respect for the character and their journey, this wasn't spitting intentionally in anyone's face just because you didn't like it or think it could've been done better."
When you look at actual indisputable and practically proudly admitted cases of homophobia in media it's a lot harder to accuse the creators of a show where every main character is queer and the whole point is queer love and joy of hate crimes.
I'm devastated about Izzy. To the point I want it to be retconned in season 3 and don't care how ridiculously they stretch my suspension of disbelief to do it. But I don't think David Jenkins is sitting at a desk somewhere cackling and rubbing his hands together at how he got away with bury your gays. That's just ridiculous.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Could it have done better? Yah of course, so could a lot of things this season. I think for what it was it was a perfectly serviceable death/ funeral scene. Did it NEED to happen? No again, but there are several possible directions different storylines can take and more than one or two are valid.
Before comparing the two, please for real consider the fact that Dean died almost alone, doing what he hated, after the man who loves him deeply told him he’s a wonderful person not because of what he can do but who he is died right in front of him as a direct result of that confession. He wasn’t even allowed to grieve, wasn’t allowed to ever see him again even though he canonically could have. The writers just thought his paradise would be driving around, alone, on standby to be there for his little brother. Just like he did in life, out of love and duty for his last blood family don’t get me wrong, but still longing for better.
