liverpool bienniel reflrection ~~~~~~~
I think i am going to take a position as being “against” bienniels/art fairs. I think open exhibitions are fine but the idea to stuff in as much random art work culture as possible across venues completely looses the original context and meaning of each individual art work (unless of course the art work involved is exploring or challenging the bienniel exhibition concept). “There’s so much to see” visitors say every time. The works that did catch my eye i immiedietly wondered about how they might look in their original/ntended enviroment. I suppose that implies that i am stanning hard for the intentional fallacy at this point. I am not understanding how an organiser/curator can take credit for putting on an art fair or bienniel. I suppose people are going to see the show because of the marketing and hype around the idea of a bienniel but it gives a false impression about what contemporary, working artists are working for. I believe it would be safe to assume that they are not making work to go in a bienniel as a mark of having “made it to the big time”. It is done to add something fancy to their CV (and that’s ok!!!).
