• First impression: chaotic little shit. the vampirism in trc makes sense with his dumb cape I love it
• Impression now: best boy!! 10/10 would die for
• Favorite moment: the scene where he and yuzuriha were going to visit sorata in the hospital and yuzuriha shoved a cookie into his mouth. he was so dorky and cute help
• Idea for a story: I'll never stop wanting an au where kamui chooses the DoE and subaru is the sakurazukamori from the start. they go on chaotic dates like fuuma and seishirou did except they actually have feelings and kamui decides maybe saving the earth actually wouldn't be terrible since he wants to protect subaru now
• Unpopular opinion: Still Don't Care For F**Kam 🤷♀️
• Favorite relationship: subkam is the only ship that matters
• Favorite headcanon: love the idea of kamui having more divine powers? characteristics? so his presence can cleanse/purify
tbh i feel like it's a ship i've been trying to resist at first, the thorki energy was what kept drawing me in; i was watching it with @angst-wizard (who's already seen it once at this point) and like i did keep being like.....'is there any fic about those two?' - it was the promise scene that really jumped out at me the first time. but at first i was more into wangningxian & jadecest & wangxian + jadecest. then when we rewatched it the second time we were focusing on the nie brothers more cos we've just been through a MAJOR fatal journey craze. but i weirdly kept zeroing on jc and a lot of the scenes i kinda missed/didn't remember from my first watch were really like...getting to me. what i'd call the beginning of the jiang cheng brain rot. read some meta & cultural context and it was just interesting to see jiang cheng & wei wuxian's relationship through it's intended cultural prism and understand it all a bit more etc. I still think i saw it as a bit unrequited-ish at the time, it wasn't until the 3rd rewatch that wei wuxian's own yearning really TOOK ME OUT. and the rest, as they say, is history.
ships with divorced energy where they're still obsessed with one another are my sweet spot.
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
just the sheer epicness of it. if you take out the love they have for each other out of the story, the story literally does not happen. it's the kind of shit myths & legends are made up of. jiang cheng allowing himself to be captured & killed for the sake of a servant? losing his golden core, a violation both symbolic & literal? wei wuxian DEFYING nature ITSELF, putting both of their lives at risk on the off chance he can make jiang cheng smile again. and then he lies to him and lives on borrowed time lest his shidi finds out and doubts his own achievements. the exchange of sacrifice without the other knowing? look me in the eye and tell me this ain't some fucking romeo & juliet shit.
it's also just the actual UNCONDITIONALITY of it. jiang cheng has every right to hate wei wuxian and knows he probably should (it would be better if he did) and yet he can never hate him. he can hate him in the moment, but it never makes its way into his next heartbeat. the MUTUALITY of it, wei wuxian looking for jiang cheng in faces of other people.....it's all so good.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
chengxian does not equal zhanchengxian! and no, zhanchengxian isn't 'uwu this is how everybody can get a happy ending & healthy polyam'. zhanchengxian only if 3zun 2.0. other than that? stop putting lan wangji in my food.

Ship It
1. What made you ship it?
that fucking box-handover scene. *lan qiren voice* jesus fucking christ, xichen. might as well have given him a lapdance.
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
the deep emotional understanding of one another that drives it and makes it so compelling but also the ultimate tragedy of them ending up wearing masks around each other.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
i think class issues play a big role in their relationship and i don't really....agree with the portrayal of lxc as this champion of meritocracy (often juxtaposed with fanon nmj's desire to...extinguish meng yao's ambition). lxc means well but he is, unfortunately, tragically posh & sheltered.
nieyao
ship it
1. what made you ship it?
ah, fuck. i don't really remember, but i think it was their first break up with both of them ugly snot-crying as nmj's banishes meng yao. also hnnnng wen!yao. dage's little homme fatale. truly just the horniest of flashbacks.
2. what are your favourite things about the ship?
just like with chengxian 'the divorced but still very much in love' dynamic always gets to me. @ectoplasm-james always calls it burtontaylor and like....YEAH. that's the energy.
i also love the juxtaposition of meng yao's time in qinghe with him in lanling. employee that's treated like family vs family that's treated like staff.
3. is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
hmm. i don't know if it's a particularly unpopular opinion among nieyao shippers but i don't think nmj & my had IRREPARABLE differences to start with and that the deterioration of their relationship was inevitable.
so I've been reading your meta and I really enjoy people looking at Meng Yao in a more nuanced way. I think one of my pet peeves in fandom is definitely how everyone easily labels Meng Yao a power hungry asshole (which, he is an asshole, but power hungry is a gross over simplification) but Jiang Cheng (who kidnapped, tortured, and murdered people for over a decade) is a precious baby who just wanted things to be okay. Nie Mingjue (who participated in the slaughter of the Wen remnants, many of
(cont) them elderly or children, and by his own logic was okay with sexism and classism) is a paragon of morality. Nie Huaisang (who the only reason he didn’t have a higher body count is because Wei Ying, Lan Zhan, and Wen Ning interfered) was just a poor baby driven to these actions. Don’t get me wrong I love all these characters (Nie Mingjue not as much though) and I completely agree that Meng Yao is a villain who did awful things, but I do have a hard time seeing what it is that makes Meng Yao so
(cont) especially villainous aside from not being born with the privilege to have his murders be seen as noble. Sorry for this ask dump XD
(cont) also one thought I haven't been able to shake since I heard that Mo Xiang Tong Xiu confirmed on twitter than Nie Huaisang becomes the next Chief Cultivator. I think, based off of how history constantly repeats itself in the novel, that Nie Huaisang would go the way of Meng Yao
I think Meng Yao is both intended to be a very evil villain and to be complicated and nearly sympathetic. One of the great things about MDZS is the way the characters mirror and contrast with one another. So Meng Yao is similar to both WWX and Xue Yang and is obviously quite similar to Nie Huaisang in methods.
As I’ve said before about Meng Yao, he doesn’t want power so much as he wants respect. It’s just that the only way he can think to attain respect is through power. However, there’s indications in the book that even when he’s Chief Cultivator, he’s not respected or well-liked. So it’s ultimately a futile quest. He sort of settles for revenge at some point: revenge on his father for ALL THE THINGS, revenge on NMJ for how he’s spoken to him, and ultimately I think revenge on the entire cultivation world.
So to a certain extent I agree with you. I definitely have something of a problem with Jiang Cheng because we’re told he tortured innocent people, potentially to death, for years. That’s the thing that my mind just won’t drop when people talk about him in particularly sappy ways. Like, it’s fine, you’re allowed to like and relate to whoever, but yeah, mostly people want to make that not canon.
Nie Mingjue is flawed, yes, but he’s flawed in a very realistic way, and in a way I think directly brings about his death. (Which is a required element of Classical Tragedy.)
Honestly I think this are all reasons why MDZS has such staying power and captivating power in adaptation after adaptation despite being “only” a BL. MXTX created a bunch of very complicated and flawed characters and bounced them off each other in ways we can talk about endlessly.
The only characters in the story who are truly irredeemable are Wen Chao, JGS, SS and XY and even then I love Xue Yang as a character. Su She could probably be redeemed but ugh who would want to. Undecided about WRH mostly because there’s not a lot of him in the book.
headcanon: Kanda and Link love having their hair played with and won't admit, Allen loves having his hair played with him and freely admits it
And Kanda and Link have such glorious, gorgeous silky hair, too. I mean’s it’s begging to be played with, right? But both have this gruff, standoffish demeanor, and like, what’s it going to look like if they both enjoy being pet like some damn tame housecat? Ridiculous. Kanda solves his problem by brushing his hair at least 100 times a night. He massages his scalp, too. One night, Allen strides into his room and catches him at it, and Allen’s all like, “It must be hard to comb through all of that. Your hair is so long. Here, let me help!” And before Kanda can protest, Allen grabs the hairbrush and starts combing through those inky tresses. It’s soothing, actually. And Allen easily loses himself in the task, eventually humming to himself as he works. Kanda, for his part, is faaaaar less cranky and has shockingly said nothing at all ever since Allen started. But Kanda doesn’t like charity, doesn’t think he needs it. So he offers to comb through Allen’s hair too. He says something like, “Your hair’s a mess, moyashi. Here, I’ll make it presentable.”
As you said, Allen loves it too, and freely admits it. He sighs in pleasure, all the tension falling from his shoulders. I mean, about 20 minutes later, Allen is practically purring in Kanda’s hands. It’s a little weird, but Kanda (as we know) also feels a bit responsible for all the things Allen goes through, so he’s inwardly pleased he can do something, anything to help.
Enter Link, who’s trying to figure out where the hell the other two are. He walks in on a mildly scowling Kanda, who doesn’t really know what to do with the Allen in his lap who’s basically acting like a housecat. Link looks at Allen, then at Kanda, then at Allen again, and then just says “Me next,” like it’s some damn salon. I mean, he’s less reticent than Kanda to admit he likes it, though he’s still framing it in the sense of, “Hmmm... wonder if really feels that good?” Of course, he knows it does. He just wants to give the illusion of curiosity.
Allen, being the great peacemaker that he is, just asks Kanda if there’s another hair brush around. He then invites Link to sit in his lap and Link agrees, and that’s how all three of them ended up brushing one another’s hair all night.
Meanwhile, Tyki is stalking them and wishing someone would run their fingers through his lovely curls too.
I think people in general just forget that we were just as stupid when we were teens. We just didn't grow up with the internet being as big in our lives, so our mistakes didn't spread as far or live on as long as they do for teens now
exactly. people fuck up and that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t address it but there are ways to do so that are productive and ways that aren’t. especially for literal teens
bifca replied to your post “bifca “winblossomwin “so… tumblr’s purple now” ...”
yeah. also a lot of people have pointed out they could have picked colors that contrasted with each other instead of increasing the saturation, which is part of what's causing the issue
i can’t offer any insight but they’re probably right. but hey this is tumblr. since when do they ever do anything Good or Useful?
hi! I've been out of the fandom loop and I was wondering what you're referring to in this post? /post/168316582424/in-this-house-we-are-bitter
the “man in a dress” joke is purely transmisogynistic. clamp likes to portray fai as being gender non-conforming to imply that he’s gay (which is its own homophobic issue) but also to get some cheap laughs because Ooooh Men Aren’t Supposed To Wear Dresses!!!!!! which is transphobic.
i really truly love fai as a character, despite clamp’s (frequent) bullshit. as a gay nonbinary person, i really like to headcanon fai as nonbinary in order to reclaim a lot of his canon gender nonconformity in a way that feels more positive to me. it is vital to his character - he’s a nurturing, maternal person, and i love that about him - but i can’t help but be bitter when thinking about how clamp treats it at times.
so instead of having kurogane berate fai for dressing femininely, i made that edit of kurogane supporting fai in being himself, which is more in line with their relationship arc in canon. and instead of having everyone else respond with shock, it was with support.
it’s really a jokey post, but it comes from a place of dissatisfaction as an LGBT person. i wrote it to be humorous, but also to comment on and respond to something that’s transphobic and homophobic in a work i love.
thanks for asking! i hope this answers your question.
