What is it with people coming to my register and paying a $10 charge with a crisp $100 bill?

My first thought is always that they're trying to launder counterfeit money. My second thought is that they're hoping to see the cashier fall apart because they simply don't have that much cash in the register. [Is it sadism at work?]

We start with $100 per register across bills and coins. We're "lucky" (sarcasm quotes) to get people paying in cash... Most people use debit or credit.

Are these people paid under the table and that's why they have these bills?

IDEK.

The other day someone paid with a $100. Wiped out my cash on hand, and they were displeased that so much of what I counted back was in $1 bills. Sucks for you, bud.

Then another one shows up several hours later with either a $50 or a $100. I had already paged for a manager TWICE to get the hundred broken for me.

Never got a response.

So the second customer was even less happy, but I was able to do an end around by swapping that bill (via someone higher on the chain than me) with a second register to be able to make change.

I mean, fuck. Seriously, what is with you people?

If you're going to pay for pizza with a big bill (ex: $50) call ahead or find a way to let them know ahead of time.

IF YOU GO TO A GAS STATION/CONVENIENCE STORE AT NIGHT

STOP BRINGING IN 50s AND 100s!!!! WE DO NOT ACCEPT THEM AFTER A CERTAIN TIME. IT IS DANGEROUS AND WE DO NOT HAVE THAT MUCH IN OUR DRAWERS. WE DON’T EVEN HOLD 50 BUCKS. I DO NOT CARE THAT YOU ONLY HAVE THOSE BILLS, WE ARE TRYING TO DO OUR JOBS. WE DID NOT MAKE THESE RULES.

I work at night, and I swear its like this needs to be common sense. Idiots steal and rob gas stations/convenience stores at night and they can get away with taking a lot of money if we allow to have 100 or even 50 bucks in the drawer at a single time. This is why we check big bills in the day time and put them away quickly as soon as someone pays with it IN THE DAYTIME. 

Don’t get upset because tis all you have, we are told to not take big bills like that at night, ever. Don’t get mad at us for being safe and avoiding as much money being stolen as possible during a robbery. I’ve been lucky, but that kind of shit can cost my fucking life. Shut the fuck up.
