Okay so if you spend enough time fishing, you can buy a bunch of audio tapes that Eggman records while in cyber space, and they’re really interesting. I wish there were more, but these are my favourite. It’s really cool to see how well Eggman understands his enemies because it speaks to not only his villainy but his depth of character.
It’s so interesting to me that Eggman cites Sonic for both Tails’ and Amy’s “classic shortcomings.” I also like that while Tails’ issue is ongoing in his mind, Amy has overcome hers (“had”—he’s speaking in past tense)—which is consistent with the story of Frontiers. Tails ends his arc by saying he needs to be more independent (similar to Amy’s arc in SA1), and Amy ends her arc by saying that she wants to share her power for good (that is her love, her power of emotion) with the world. Amy’s BEEN independent for a long time, by now, but she’s yet to really branch out.
All the characters are off on their new frontiers after this (it took me way too long to understand that THIS is why the game is called “frontiers”), and I think the fact that Eggman gives testimony to the need for this by independently making these observations is super interesting.
I look forward to see how mainline will continue to check and balance Sonic’s ego as we move forward in this new era (especially with that DLC on the way).
