The sentence itself is paradoxical and shows the problem in their relationship. Xaden says he will work to regain her trust, but expects Violet to ask the questions so make the first move.

And on top on that here we are at the beginning of the book, if you look at everything from beginning to end he definitely didn't do enough to prove to Violet that she doesn't need full disclosure.

Just came out to another family member making this the second one to know.
