The world always seemed to slow down when Mica was running. She was suddenly alert and focused whenever she started. However, this run felt different. Her usually aimless speeding now had a purpose as she sped over the sands of the Beach City coastline, throwing a graceful arc of sand into the air with every footstep.
She slid to a stop at the tip of the coast, leaving two long streaks in the sand. She faced a crumbling statue of a multi-armed woman who watched the sea and protected a small house with her worn, stone hands. This was where Mica was told to go.
As she approached the house at a walking pace, she pulled an item out of her backpack; a glass sphere about the size of a grapefruit, containing a bright-yellow stone with a hairline fracture down its center. She smiled as she looked at it and felt a kind of positive energy emanating from it.
Mica knocked on the screen door and cautiously peered into the house. “Hello? Pearl? It’s Mica. Is anyone home?
