Things I noticed about Wake Up Dead Man from rewatching it again:
-When Wicks was “Burning the flock” he went for personal attacks against the women and career attacks against the men. This could have to do with his sexism believing the women’s careers aren’t important enough to attack or him feeling deeper hatred for the women in the group. It’s a noticeable difference between “I’ll make sure nobody will ever trust you as a doctor again” vs “You don’t deserve healing and you’ll die in pain”
-Wicks doesn’t insult Martha when he was burning the flock, maybe because he thinks higher of her slightly or maybe because she told him where eves apple was.
- Jud renamed the church after Grace, “Our lady of Perpetual Grace”
- Eves apple, which in media is often used to point out women’s sins and wrongdoings was used to reveal the sins of almost every man in the church.
-Nats last name is Sharp. Which is really funny to me
So a quick thing on Wake Up Dead Man!
There's a few things I noticed due to being raised Catholic myself (blessed be my religious trauma) that nobody talks about.
The church this whole thing takes place in is a CATHOLIC church; why am I remarking this? Well, unlike protestant priests, The Catholic Clergy are FORBIDDEN from either marriage or sex.
A Reverend could have a wife and kids, a catholic priest CAN'T.
Thus; both Father Wicks (Prentice and Jefferson) had kids out of wedlock.
We're constantly bombarded with the image of The Harlot Whore, but it wasn't Grace who had kids while having a bow of chastity; it was her father, and then her son.
Neither men are chastised for breaking their bows AS CATHOLIC PRIESTS,NEITHER SHOULD HAVE CHILDREN AND THUS NEITHER IS IN A POSITION TO JUDGE WOMEN.
And more so in the case of Jeff, because the revelation that he BROKE his vows makes him want to say quits and run for an office, but there's the small issue that a Catholic priest CAN'T quit; they have to ask permision to their Diocese to retire (their Bishop), and the Bishop can either allow or deny their perrisher's request to retire.
So there he's commiting a double sin against his own vows as a priest.
So, to any devout catholic, Wicks themselves should've been already on their shit list; but they found it easier to hate on a woman who made NO vows of the sort.
All this to say Benoit was 100% right during the whole movie and the church was missogining the whole ass time.
Wake Up Dead Man also making use of that apple rule is so funny to me. Jud having an iphone and using it multiple times. It literally ringing (and him answering the call) after he thinks he killed somebody to remind us that he actually didn't. Also all the suspects not having an iphone except for Nat who never actually picks it up!!!
