My brain is so stupid. I mostly read about hurricanes in English. When I saw the word in German just now, I was like, what fancy new spelling is that?

in russian, we sometimes (jokingly) call mental health a "kukukha", it's like a bit meanier name for a cuckoo bird. so when we have a mental breakdown, we say "кукуха улетела" or "кукуха поехала" which translate as "cuckoo has flown/gone away". so there's a little bird making funny sounds living in my head!
The word I need: recover, recuperate, convalesce My brain, instead: oporavi Me: THAT ISN'T ENGLISH
By now you might know that I freaking love languages and speak a few. I wish I spoke even more! You might have even seen my Noël/Chris trans-language bit in This Little Blaze if you've read some of my stories.
So when I read this in The Midnight Oil by Lyoko_Native, you can imagine how thrilled I was by this part!
Shoutout to people who are more confident at their second language than their first. You're not being disloyal to your first language just because, for whatever reason, you're better at your second
Some people: Stop writing latines as switching language on the middle of a phrase, it’s weird. We never do that, nobody does it, especially not in front of someone we know doesn’t speak it. Me, talking to my gringo friend: Yes, desde luego que I am going to want to see that piece of fanart. Debe estar amazing.
how can i say “against his better judgment” in spanish?
