Trying to be conscious of studying effectively
Hey i have to take either Biol 112 or Biol 121, which do you think was easier/less work? Time IS of the essence :)
I think 121 was less work, only because there weren’t any tutorial sessions.
what kind of concepts are IMPORTANT to know for biol 112? so I can do well on the synthesis problems
You probably want a good grasp on everything, you don’t know what they will ask on the exams. I also can’t give you specifics because I took this course 5 years ago and I wasn’t a big fan of it, sorry.
what should i put on my biol 112 cheat sheet? tell me any tips + ideas about cheat sheet! anything! thanks:)
Ummm the cycles (Carbon, Nitrogen etc) are good? I don’t remember if you’ve gotten to that part yet though. Any sort of lists or steps are also good, be sure to add details!
I'm going to be a first year science student and I was wondering why BIOL 112 shows up on my course list as "restricted"?
Did you actually read why it’s restricted?
Restricted Seats Remaining*:300
*These seats are reserved for students who meet one of the following sets of restrictions:
in year: >=2
not in any of these faculties: SCIE in year: =1
in one of these programs: BSC in one of these faculties: SCIE in year: =1
Do I have to take all of BIOL 112, 121 and 140 during my first year to get into the Biology major? Are they prerequisites for the future courses I'll need to take?
You can do either 112 or 121, with 140 but I HIGHLY recommend you just take all 3 to get them over with, it makes course selection easier when you’re in Biology. 112 isn’t a pre-req for any of the upper level Biology courses, at least I don’t remember, but if you wanted to do some MICB, you will need it.

Should I take BIOL 112 before 121? Does it matter?
It doesn’t matter.
I took BIOL 121 and 112 last semester and I enjoyed 121 but absolutely hated 112. I'm looking to major in Biology as well but was wondering if most of the courses required in the program are similar to 112? I'm looking at BIOL 200 and the description sounds so similar which is making me worried. Thanks!
I didn’t enjoy BIOL 112 much either, and preferred BIOL 121. Most of the upper-level BIOL courses are more similar to BIOL 121, except for BIOL 200 which touched one some of the BIOL 112 topics. However, I found BIOL 200 to be wayy more enjoyable than BIOL 112.
BIOL 112 is for students interested in MICB, so at least you know now that maybe going into MICB isn’t for you =P.
