Today we finished our lab 8 & 9 which were to use selective and differential test media to build a biochemical reaction profile for our gram negative and gram positive bacterias.

Here are our samples and what our growths look like! We also made some slides and when I come back from spring break, I will post what they look like under the microscope!

Gram positive bacterias include: staph. Aureus, staph. Epidermis, Micrococcus luteus, & enterococcus faecalis.

Gram negative bacterias include: E. Coli, Proteus Vulgaris, Salmonella Typhimurium, and Serratia Marscens.

Monday, we did lab#11 & #12, it was the same aseptic technique as lab #11 (we tested it the fish water was safe to consume) but we used a food sample instead! Used plates: EMB, MAC, SAB, TSA, &XLD Petri dishes.

For lab #11 - our results shows bacteria grew with the 2X LTB dark brown tube and the 1X LTB light brown tube. Our brilliant green tube and petri plates for lab 11 didn’t show any growth.

For lab # 12 - The TSA plate showed fungi growth whilst the EMB plate showed pink gram negative bacteria! The SAB showed two fungi in the sample. The rest of the Petri dishes showed nothing.

To conclude, both of these labs proved that my fish water sample and food sample were NOT safe to consume! My hypothesis in my journal was correct. I hope you enjoy my pictures!!!

In today’s lab, we examined our culture samples which were done in the previous class about 48 hours ago. Our main objective was to get a sample of bacteria from a contaminated table and transfer it to our TSA plate. Eventually after we incubated the samples at 25°c And after those 48 hours this is how our results came about.

As you can see, we have different types of bacteria and it is a mixed culture due to the different shapes and colors that are present in the plates. I really love this class and I enjoy the different things we are learning and doing in the laboratory. 🧪🥼🧫

Today we made MHA Agar plates at work!! So much fun!

MHA plates are mainly used to see which medication / antibiotic is effective enough to kill certain bacterias!
