Xenoblade Quest Warning--Bionis Leg Lake Drop
Remember the Refugee Camp's collection of quests regarding helping Pama cope with losing his parents (A Thoughtful Idea -> A Dash of Colour -> Imaginations Tempered/Spirits Raised)?
Remember how, when we first did it, we probably didn't think it'll mean anything later?
This quest chain has two routes:
- "Imaginations Tempered," where you get Matryona a Lake Drop to redo the painting she made--thereby preventing Pama from drowning.
- "Spirits Raised," where you give Arda a Medicinal Herb to heal her back so she can watch Pama better, also preventing him from drowning.
Same ending, little difference, right?
No.
Affinity Chart-wise, it's similar. In Imaginations Tempered, Pama's affinity turns green for Ewan and Matryona, but in Spirits Raised, Pama's affinity for Arda turns green. Really, at first, you think that's the only main trade-off. It's the main reason why I go for Spirits Raised over its counterpart, as I like the idea of healing Arda and then strengthening her and her surrogate grandson Pama's bond.
However, this is not the only difference.
By doing Imaginations Tempered, you're actually sabotaging Ewan and Matryona's relationship.
When you first begin rebuilding Colony 6, Ewan has his two quests, "What is Love?!" and "What is Courage?!" He asks you to give Matryona (just a ten second jog away from him) a book he wrote professing his love for her. Her subsequent quest, "Matryona's Answer," involves retrieving either a Lake Drop or a Nasty Weed so she can paint an appropriate answer painting, which she'll ask you to deliver, again, with just a ten-second jog back to Ewan (big sigh).
Naturally, a Lake Drop makes a pretty painting, and the Nasty Weed does not.
If you do Imaginations Tempered, You Cannot Get the Lake Drop Again.
The Lake Drop is acquirable only once, which means that Matryona will ONLY REJECT Ewan because you now cannot get a Lake Drop.
If you hate Ewan for not pulling his socks up when the colony was being attacked, now's your chance, go right ahead and ruin the coward's life. But if you believe everyone gets a second chance, and/or you want an optimal end with Ewan and Matryona with a green affinity, consider first finding the Medicinal Weed for Sprits Raised. Or at the very least, do Spirits Raised just to have both options for Matryona's Answer.
