It sort of crashed the entire store 5 minutes into launching 6 hours ago.
I hopped on the page for it 8 minutes after Nintendo tweeted the news, but the site couldn't acknowledge that I was logged in and acted like I wasn't. I went onto a new tab, weaved back into the shop, and knew I was signed in then, but the purchase button was stuck loading.
And then I got the below message when I tried clicking it.
About 35-ish minutes later, I was yeeted from the waiting room, and I was on the product page again.
By this time, Nintendo had put out a tweet apologizing for the situation.
Now the purchase button was greyed out, and it was confused, lol. Every time I refreshed, it either "thought I wasn't logged in" and/or "thought I purchased the max amount already," but either way, I couldn't stick it into my cart whatsoever. When I clicked "log in," it prompted me to use my account, which I clicked, and then it booted me back to the product page still insisting that I was logged out. Solid.
After too many refreshes over the course of an hour or so, I found my way back to the infamous waiting room, where I've been for 4 hours now.
Things are going grand today! :)
So can the special edition be preordered today? Uhhh...
But on a side note, it's official that every My Nintendo Store regardless of region will be shipping the game itself separate from the special edition components (box, steelbook, and artbook). They promise the game will be shipped either on or around release date, but the special edition can't be shipped until the fall. COVID, warehouse storage, supplier issues, who knows what the issue is.
But you know, I can deal with that.
