Mechanics of attaching a removable beak prosthetic? I'm unsure on what mechanism would be sturdy enough to not fall off while also removable for cleaning/repairs. Screws would have to through the beak itself too wouldn't they? Something that clamps over sounds like it would get uncomfortable really fast.

beak prosthetics for real birds are usually not made to be removed on a regular basis. I have found a few articles about birds that needed prosthetic beaks:

you should also know that bird beaks can actually regrow! all bird beaks are made of keratin, the same stuff as your fingernails, and overgrowth is a whole other problem. A really severely broken beak may never grow back to its full size though, especially if the underlying bone is damaged, and the regrowth process is also rather slow.

Pretty much all the wild birds that have received prosthetic beaks are deemed unable to return to the wild because the prosthetic might fall off under too much strain, since they typically rely on glue.

depending on how much of a beak your bird person has left and what materials are available for a prosthetic, they may be able to have something like a suction fit? like a soft rubber cap that fits over the remaining beak, making it slot into the prosthetic beak.

or like, something akin to those plastic tooth covers, the ones used as an alternate form of braces or for night time jaw clenching problems. just a nice tight fit. on the braces idea, a more permanent beak prosthetic might use holes in the remaining beak and the prosthetic to then add wires that hold it all in place?

it very much depends on the shape and size of the beak and how much real beak is left to fit things onto.

in the case of having no beak left at all, the prosthetic will more likely require a full head gear arrangement to keep it in place, or that might be the point where they just have screws and sockets installed in their face to keep the prosthetic on.

if it's only the tip of the beak though, they'll just need a temporary prosthetic to cover the gap while it regrows, likely kept in place with glue and easily replaceable if it falls off for any reason.

Behold: A Fan OC - Dete

This is Dete (pronounced "Deu-tuh"), a fan-OC to the wonderful original world/universe of @uxuefrog with the current placeholder title: "The Elf Princess."

She's some bird-folk lady who has a condition that caused her to be unable to grow feathers. She just wants to live her life in peace, along with her constant battle with protecting herself from the sun, thermoregulatory issues and trying not to make kids cry with her appearance.

She doesn't talk much, but adults assume she's a good listener, so she's often stuck with someone blabbing all their dark secrets and dramatic life stories away, while all she wants is to tend to her greenhouse and concoct new oils and remedies for her never-ending struggle with the management of her own health.

No one knows where she's from or what she went through, but they'll often hear her sing in a foreign language when she thinks she's alone.

She exists now and I can lay this Fan-OC to rest. Thanks for your grace in allowing us to draw OC's inspired by your world and style, it was fun to draw her, Froggy! <3
