Reboot: June 2022 - I finished Birds of California by Katie Cotugno Saturay night and *sigh* guys! It was so good and had such a satisfying ending!

I am so glad I picked this book up - I kept seeing it pop up on my social media feeds, and now I understand why.

Californian former superstar Fiona St. James (love that name!) had a great crash and burn from her childhood celebrity status as the main character on the popular tv series, Birds of California. After too many forays into drunken craziness, the network dropped the show, and Fiona disappeared. There were rumors that she died.

The book picks up several years later, when Fiona is laying low working at her family's print shop and only occasionally being recognized. Her former co-star, Sam Fox, has been the star of a popular tv drama....but he's just learned that it's been canceled. And he's running out of money.

Sam gets a call from his agent, about the possible re-boot of Birds of California. It could be what revives Sam's career. But he needs to convince Fiona to join in, and that effort is going to take him on a wild ride.

I loved this story! It flowed so well, was so interesting and colorful. The characters were skillfully made in just a few sentences. There was a satisfying level of California grunge and angst. And guess what Fiona's favorite book is??? WEETZIE BAT. Boo-yah.

Get this book, guys. It's the summer read you didn't know you needed.
