Striated Heron (Butorides striata) Standing still at the water's edge waiting to ambush prey - mainly small fish. It is widespread and generally common. It is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN
This blurry speck is a spotted towhee. Trust me.
I haven't been on as many birdwalks as I would like. Recently I had an opportunity to interview for a part time job at a local botanic garden, so I took advantage and brought my binoculars to the grounds.
It's wonderful to see that spring migration is underway. Lots of plants are in bloom too.
I haven't been able to work for a long time. This has been my first interview since I left my last job. It's scary to take steps forward. Still... As I looked on at the many birds at the gardens, I couldn't help but feel hopeful. Spring is the season of renewal. Maybe they'll call me back. Maybe I can do this. It's not much in the way of pay, and it's only pay time. But I would be getting out of the house to work somewhere beautiful. And you know what? It'd be nice to bird at the gardens without paying an entrance fee.
This speck is an osprey.
