Being a mama has taught me that things are impossible to prepare for. Like how would I ever deal with a kid with a GI bug? Or cope with a baby who eats all night? Or manage when I'm sick or injured or having an anxiety meltdown and my partner is gone or unable to help me?
But you just do it. There is no other way. And there's a mysterious well deep inside of you that has unimaginable depths of bravery and courage and strength and you do the most amazing things that you could never, ever do for yourself or by yourself. Because you have to. You have to deal so you cry or scream or lock yourself in the bathroom for five minutes and then you set your teeth and do the thing and survive.
And it's never perfect and it never looks like Pinterest or a magazine or the idea in your head. But it's still amazing.
Because the foundation, the bedrock of everything you do, is this thundering underground river of the most powerful love you've ever experienced.
And the crazy intense amazing sensation of labour? That is coming from YOU. That is how strong you are, and you will transform that pain and struggle into love for your baby and your baby will grow up knowing that you are not perfect but you are strong and your love is the foundation of his/her world.
And for your partner, he will be rocked to his core when he watches you give birth, and he will be hit by the tidal wave of love and it will pour out of him into your family. It's the most amazing thing.
So I hope that helps you feel a bit better about it all. You can do the impossible because of love.
