I wish SO MUCH that we’d gotten a Willow arc for Stiles. Like, I read that Jeff got inspiration for Teen Wolf from Buffy (&Spiderman comics) and I saw clear aspects of Willow in Stiles’ character. He was much better characterized in a lot of ways, but I think he would have really benefited from a Willow-Style arc. Willow was one of the humans of the show, but she got into magic as a way to make herself more useful.
Which reminded me of
Stiles and his ‘spark’.
However, they never really elaborated on this. Ik Emissary!Stiles is a popular au, but why didn’t we get the real thing? Stiles would have retained his humanity just the same? That brings me to the Dark Willow/Void Stiles parallels. The ‘good, rational, lovable, side-kick’ that become our corrupt villain.
Both caused because of the loss/capture of a loved one
Leading to an emotional conclusion with support from friends. (Held up by a childhood crush)
Anyway, aside from the missed opportunity of Spark!Stiles, we also lost one of the best Willow arcs that Stiles absolutely needed.
The coming out. Willow went to college and found love in Tara, after having dated Oz (funny enough, a werewolf) the past 2 and a half seasons. I think Stiles, and his many references to his bisexuality, would have really benefited from a similar arc. As much as I love the built-up inevitability of Stydia, I think Willow’s overcoming of her childhood love for Xander helped show the growth of her character. I think Oz and Malia have a lot of similarities is their blunt nature and how they helped both Willow and Stiles grow as characters. I just think Stiles learning to harness his spark and him really addressing his bisexuality would have added to the development of his character.
