I'm so torn... I found the perfect doll for my character but for a variety of reasons I would need to get it recast. I really don't want to be shunned by like 3/4 of the community... I've only been in the hobby a year.... I've worked so hard to get the legits I have but this new doll is just not possible for me... I don't know what to do...
Anon, don’t be confused, the fact that theyscream louder doesn’t make them the vast majority of the bjd community or bjdowners around the world.
I’ll say we are a %40 to %30 anti recast doll ownersagainst %70 or %60 recast neutral or pro recast owners. Sure it seems they’remore, they insult more, they harass, bully, discriminate people for any sort ofreasons, make more drama in the community than any other and again, they screamlouder, but they’re not “3/4 of the community” and I can tell you that for sure(I’ve being in this community since the early 2000′s). This is 2018, not 2013or 2014. Regardless of whatever they might have told you about “how they arethe majority”, they’re not. Each day more and more people jump into the hobbythanks to recast, and sure, in time some of them get legits too, but mostpeople can’t jump to a hobby where the entry ticket it’s so expensive just likethat, and the excuse of: “then get a cheap legit that you don’treally like but should get because I say it’s the right thing to do with yourmoney”, isn’t working anymore either. People get cheap legits from sculpts theydislike only to later found out they are stuck with a doll they hate andeventually leave the hobby for good thinking the problem is them and not thefact that they have a doll is not the one they wished for because in order toobey other people they settle for a cheap legit they don’t like.
I’m nottelling that cheap legits can’t be beautiful; I have dolls from most cheapcompanies out there among others from very expensive companies and alsorecasts. But I never get a doll unless I actually like it and that’s the sculptI actually want. Because the bottom line is, it’s your money. Yours, nottheirs. And you should buy what you like or want with your money. You earn it, you’vesaved it for months or years, and no one is entitled to tell you what to do withit, they’re not your parents, they’re just sad little people on the internet. The proartists or antirecasts are haters that claim to have a “better moral”, but can you judge a human being just for the doll he owns? Even legitowners that have cheap company dolls are usually left aside. You haven’t beinghere for that long, but before recast people got pushed away from this verysame “anti community” because they owned a cheap doll and not Volks or Luts, or because they used a“cheap” fur wig, because they couldn’t commission a $150 faceup from some popularartist, or because they had to make the clothes for their own dolls and anyother reason you can think of. Recasts are just the new “hot trend” to use whenit comes to step on peoples heads and discriminate them. Bottom line is, thatthis people are not defending the artist, they’re elitists, and as such, theyhave the need to be on the “top notch elite” and shame on others just toreassure themselves “they’re better”.
This hobby it’s pretty much likehighschool, and the antirecast (or proartists) are the cheerleaders and the footballteam players, we’re the outcasts because they’re so insecure about themselvesthat the only way they have to feel better is to shame on others. But they’regetting outnumbered (faster than they know), and losing the control they haveover other people scares them more than the fear you might have of beingashamed as a recast owner.
If you want my personal advice, get the doll youlove and can afford with your own money, and if anyone tells you that “what youdo is wrong”, then block them and move on to find better friends (there are around 7.6 billion people on this planet, trust me, you can find friends that care and love you and your doll, just as you are, you don’t need to let others put you down for the sake of getting on a certain group). There are plenty of pro recast communitiesout there that antis don’t promote because they want to give the impressionthat “screaming louder” will make them “more”. Forums like castawayor recastsanctuary, you also have prorecast facebook groups, you can also find prorecast YouTubers if you look for them. Almost all social media have a“search” function, look for “recast box opening”, or “recast friendly”, or “prorecast” and you should find people with common interests. The choice it’syours, but I just hope you don’t take your choice based on fear, because that’swhy they still exist, we give them the power to frighten us, and they feed onthat.
