Suzaku speaks perfect Japanese, exalted, eloquent, like a true leader or a high-ranking person would. Meanwhile, most of the time he has to speak English, his pronunciation would fall behind, his vocabulary would lack sophistication and finesse, the accent screaming “foreign”, “not britannian”.
Lelouch, on the other hand, speaks impeccable English with perfect structure, perfect grammar, perfect vocabulary and pronunciation - his excellence indeed. However, Black Knights don’t speak English between each other, Japanese is the language they prefer, maybe with some alterations and occasional English additions with heavy accent - japanese-english, not English. Lelouch doesn’t speak enough to fit in, he doesn’t understand the slang, Suzaku didn’t teach him that, but everyone assumes that he’s too serious to get it anyway - they let it slide. When Reid joins, when they bring in more international figures into the game, Lelouch quietly breathes out - it’s so much easier to speak “fake” English than to pretend to know perfect Japanese and hide the occasionally slipping out English accent.
No matter how perfect of Japanese Suzaku had been teaching him - he is not here anymore, there is no time for that. Maybe when he establishes something more stable, makes Japan Japan again, maybe then they’ll have time to catch up, and he’ll get to know all those silly words the knights use between each other, maybe he will be able to properly understand all those jokes the meaning of which he cannot quite grasp.
He will make sure Nunnally gets the chance to keep learning Japanese from Suzaku, smile brightly and carefree, and ask all the curious questions she has. He better take good care of her when the time comes.
Just completed a cross stitch of the Lego Castle Black Knights escutcheon. 😊
Next up for the Grand Procession of Nagash, a unit of Black Knights!
I started working on these dudes a couple of years ago but they’ve been lying unfinished since then. I did finish the bases but the models themselves are still in the very early stages of completion.
So in my quest to finish the Nighthaunt army, the Black Knights are next to be tackled!
For gaming purposes (in the infinitely small chance that I actually play a game of Warhammer) they will be used as Hexwraiths, but I’m not a big fan of the Hexwraith miniatures so I opted to build the unit as Black Knights instead.
They’re going to stand out somewhat from the rest of the Nighthaunt army in that they’ll have a lot more solidity to their form. The steeds will be painted in the same manner as my Dreadblade Harrows but the riders themselves will have a lot of real material instead of being mostly ethereal.
I’m planning to paint their armour in aged metal to follow the theme of the rest of the army (magical or enchanted armour and weapons are painted in actual metallic colours while basic/mundane items are painted in a heavily rusted manner).
Looking forward to getting stuck into these guys!
Happy Hobbying!
