BSD Flower Analysis #2- white and black lilies

Welcome to part two of my completely unwelcomed bullshit analysis! *yay!* 

Basically, I think that Harukawa35-sensei and Asagiri Kafka-sensei didn’t pick these specific flowers just because they look pretty. In Japanese culture, flower language is valued a lot- so, in many of the official art pictures, I think there are meanings in the flowers.

In this picture, we don't actually know where this is in the story timeline. Considering that Dazai got his clothing somewhere during ages 15-18 (detailed in a previous post), this creates a huge hole. My point being, how old he is in this picture can change the applications of the meaning. 

*I think these are lilies. If they aren’t, I will do this all over again. Please correct me if I am wrong.* 

That being said, I looked into some Japanese sites for information- and here’s what I got! 

- Lilies (in general): purity, dignity, chastity, innocence 

- White lilies: all the above, but usually except innocence 

And here’s what gets me: 

- Black lilies: love, a curse, and sometimes, revenge 

There seems to be a theme of love in quite a lot of Dazai’s flowers... 

I might be using this for a larger theory I’m thinking of. I don’t know. Probably just me overthinking.
