Unfortunately the Black Mailbox (Neither black nor a mail box) is no more. It had been stolen numerous times and upon my most recent visit, was missing yet again. Donations are often made to restore it aka install a similar one, usually in a different spot or in a different color, and usually removed from google maps to deter more theft.

Theft of local signs is also common, the signs for "Extraterrestrial Highway" are usually covered in stickers to the point of vandalism or stolen, as well as Rachel's city sign. Upon my visit one of the "Extraterrestrial Highway" signs was raised very high over the ground to prevent stickers and theft, with a small notice saying "In-N-Out Burger" helped provide the funds to re-install it (not confirmed).

More reasons why I love this film for being a time capsule of sorts.
