How freaking awesome is Trelawney Thorpe?
When Trelawney Thorpe broke out her blue-green grid goggles, I wondered why she needed them. She had just killed an invisible opponent without them on the previous page! But then I read through that page more carefully.
Panels 1 and 2: Incredible observational skills: three almost simultaneous shots from three different directions means at least three opponents Panel 3: Using all her senses Panel 4: An endless supply of cool and useful gadgets Panels 5 and 6: Keeping a cool head and thinking quickly under fire Panel 7: Great intelligence (in both sense of the word): realization dawns, she knows it’s the Black Squad, an invisible enemy. Masterful strategic thinking (with a dash of genre savviness), she knows the enemy is right behind her. Panel 8: Lightning reflexes, nerves of steel, and ice water in her veins: she strikes without hesitation! Panel 9: A time and a place for everything: she keeps her monologuing/exposition short and waits until after she has disposed of her enemy
But now that the Black Squad knows she knows they’re there, she needs an additional edge against them, hence the goggles.
How freaking awesome is Trelawney Thorpe? Pretty freaking awesome! (Kaja, Phil, and Cheyenne are no slouches either!)
