Blackinnon Summerfest 2025 Prompt 28

They had been one of the first people to arrive at the strawberry patch. Marlene’s family had found it best to start early when it was cooler, and then they would finish picking around noon. Her light jacket that helped with the morning chill would end up wrapped around her waist midway through her collection. Strawberry ice cream from the farm was a nice reward afterwards. Her family ended up with more than a dozen boxes.

Strawberry picking was an annual family tradition, and friends were always welcomed. Lily had come with her a few times. This year, she had offhandedly invited Sirius not really expecting him to show, but he had. It had been nice having him there.

Now they were sitting at a wooden table eating their ice cream. Thankfully their ice cream was in tall cups because it would have been melting off the edges if they had cones.

“We got a lot of strawberries. Thankfully, it wasn’t too difficult to find good ones. Last year we arrived later in the season, and the owners said it would be a bit of a scavenger hunt. You know what you are going to do with yours?” Marlene asked.

“I’ll probably make a cake with some and take it to the Potter’s for lunch.” Sirius said. “I’ll try to remember to bring you a slice as well. I haven’t made one before, but it can’t be too difficult. Then for the rest I’ll eat whenever.”

“Strawberry cake sounds good. I’m sure everyone will like it.” Marlene said smiling. “Thanks for coming it was fun having you here.”

“Thanks for inviting me.” He smiled back.
