An estimated 11.2 million Africans suffered the transatlantic slave trade. But guess what, only about 4% came to the US. In fact Mexico even received 250k more than the US. The rest? well they went to the Caribbean and South America. In 1922 Colombia’s government issued “Law 114” which authorized the immigration of Europeans but would forbid any other group of Blacks to settle there. This was the “whitening” of Latin America that whites in Latin America had been longing for. In fact in other countries such as Brazil, Peru, and Venezuela state funds we allocated to help pay for the voyage of Europeans to these countries. Leading up to emancipation, and post slavery, countries in the Caribbean and Latin America started to pursue all avenues to rid themselves of their Blackness, from a racial and cultural perspective.
